though the princess is mildly startled by the shadowed movement above her head, she holds her own and maintains a solid stance as the figure unveils itself among the leaves. there are no words that follow the shift — instead, something like a chirp exits the creature's mouth, and kida, squinting, cannot understand its significance. there are bats in atlantis... but they come much smaller than this one. this is human-sized, hulking and substantial, almost terrifying. if kida hadn't already seen this shape before, she'd draw a weapon in fear. "you were not this thing when we first spoke," the princess speaks in a plain tongue, not atlantean, hoping she will understand. "are you stuck like that? and do you need help getting down?" there's a loose flap of her wings in response to the princess's questions, and kida takes a cautious step away in case she intends to launch from the tree and land nearby. "we have no time for games," she adds, and, at last, a tiny smile perks upon her lips. "please get down."

with @studiodrafts, kida and milo. — someone could hear us.
"shh!" her shushing is paired with a huge, impish smile, one that smothers back the giggling trying to escape her lungs. as she pulls milo's long arm behind her, tugging him down the narrow path, kida listens for the sounds of her royal guards. they're up the walkway a bit, chatting casually, and completely miss the queen and her consort's disappearance from the palace steps. if kida is lucky, it'll be hours before they notice the two have vanished into the atlantean jungle alone. "i always run off," she whispers to milo, pulling him along. "they're used to it. besides." at a small fork in the path, kida spins around to face the linguist; they bump into each other unceremoniously, and kida places her finger over his lips. "there's nothing here that can hurt me. if there was, you'd protect me. wouldn't you, milo thatch."
another mischievous grin blooms across her face, and they're back to darting down the gravel stretch before them. they dip behind waterfalls, dart over streams, and climb a small rocky cliff before kida brings him to their destination. before them sits a large pond, and at first it appears shallow and murky. upon further inspection, it's clearly deep, deeper than either can see from the surface. underwater ruins, a long tunnel... "do you recognize where we are?" she asks, hands on her hips. "perhaps it will look familiar to you." then, to further jog his memory... "you swim pretty good... pretty girl..." her eyes are twinkling. "i remember."
with @ujima, kida and t'challa. — do you ache for me?
kida did not anticipate hearing such a forward question... but then again, she did not anticipate any of this. t'challa's presence, his feelings, her feelings, even. the two are leaders of their own people, guardians of their own worlds, and yet... it is near-impossible to deny the connection. magnetism. true harmony. the new queen has breathed easier since t'challa arrived to assist her people — he comes with soldiers and training, intelligence, strength, kindness... he comes with knowledge from the surface, a place kida has never known. of course her curiosity would drive her closer, and, in doing so, allow the queen to feel new interest. she's navigating it as best as she can, playing around with the idea, all while attempting to remain poised, royal, and respectable on atlantean soil. t'challa does the same... although his question tonight, prompted from a long silence, has her heart fluttering and her tongue go dry.
"i thought we agreed not to talk about that." there's a coyness to her voice as she sits on the nearest stone chair, reclining, eyes drawn up to his eyes. "for our people. knowing you must return to wakanda, and i must stay in atlantis to rule my home. for their sake, we agreed to... keep our feelings away from this." though kida does glance downward briefly, she struggles to keep her gaze away from him. reluctantly, she looks back up. her voice hesitates. "you already know how i feel."
with @maleuficent, kida and maleficent.
kida remains tucked against the rocks, the waterfall cascading in front of her in a tumultuous roar. through the hazy wall of water, she spies the stranger, the figure with horns, their form cloaked and bathed in dark colors. even from this vantage point, kida can see the shape of the woman, view her strong expression, her solid eyes. she is unable to gather whether this is friend or foe. kida clings to her spear, all the muscles in her body, tense. she waits. she watches. she does not know this woman, but she senses she's about to. it's only a matter of time before the stranger sees her shadow behind the waterfall and speaks up... or attacks.
