What are some of the most overlooked things ever? Okay, here's a clue. They've been with you from the day you were born, to the day you will die. They live with you, your friends, your family, in homes, schools, hospitals, hotels... Everywhere. We wouldn't be able to live without them. These underrated specimens are... Spoons. Okay wait no hear me out. They've been feeding you since you were a kid, amazing you with fancy colours, and coddling you with soft, rubbery textures to keep you safe. They're the main attraction, or rather, memory, of that ice cream you ate on that one road trip with your family. Do you remember the flavour of the ice-cream? No you don't. The wooden spoon? The one that splintered in your mouth before yoou snapped it into half for fun? Vividly. They are the only utensils trusted with sweet, melting ice-creams, warm, watery soups, soft, delicious cake, crunchy, comforting cereal... You name it, you can use it. It can occasionally replace forks and knives as well! Yes, we do complain when our parents send us a spoon for our pasta, but we can still use it, can't we? Edges of spoons are as efficient in cutting through butter or an omlette as a knife. Additionally, it's a form of comfort. Seeing your own spoons after using foreign objects to eat is enough to bring tears to one's eyes. But enough about food. We cannot forget the joy it brought us as kids to use them as catapults now, can we? Or how useful they were as shovels. In fact, they were more of toys than teddy bears ever were. Best friends for life until one day they got bent after being stuck into a tub of super-hard ice-cream.
They're your first wingmen, if you think about it. If you've shared a spoon with your crush, you've technically shared saliva and therefore kissed. There you have it. Aren't they so sweet? So, the next time you see one, just think about all that you have been through together, and give it a little kiss of gratitude. And don't be repulsed by that, you literally have them in your mouth at every meal.
