Premise: You have a nightmare and a mysterious person helps you get back to sleep. If only you knew them. If only you could remember how safe you felt with them. If only you could remember to thank them…
CW: The nightmare is not described at all, but descriptions of panic are included. ⚠️
Story is under the cut.
A scream tore itself from your chest startling you awake. The space around you was completely blacked out. Dead silence hung in the air. With no recollection of who you were or where you were, paranoia heightened your fear.
Something was in here with you. You couldn’t see it, but it definitely knew you were there. You were already halfway out of your bed and tangled in your sheets when you heard the sound of footsteps rapidly approaching.
Immediately, you took cover on the floor and draped the sheets over your head. Desperate to conceal yourself, but your breathing was too erratic. A tight feeling built in your chest. You gasped for air, but your throat felt empty. For a few moments, you couldn’t hear anything over the thunderous roar of your heartbeat in your ears.
It took several more moments to realize that you were… Being held or embraced? A name that you didn’t recognize made its way to you. Could that have been your name? You tried to hold onto it, to something that would give you clarity and quell the violent panic that was drowning you.
“It’s okay, Sweetie. Just breathe. Deep breaths.”
You gasped a few more times. Each second without feeling air enter your lungs was agonizing. But eventually the familiar rise and fall of your chest returned. Every now and then some coughs disrupted the rhythm, but you could breathe again.
“That’s good. You’re doing great.”
You realized that you still didn’t know this person, and the panic began to creep in again.
“Who- ”, you started, hoarsely.
“I’m here to help you. Everything will be fine, I promise”, the voice responded.
The message was so gentle and sincere. You desperately wanted to believe it, but you hadn’t calmed down fully.
“I’m-, I need-, I don’t- ” You stuttered, unable to finish through short breaths.
“I know. I can explain everything later, just take your time”, the voice reassured.
Then you were being helped up. The blanket remained on your head, obscuring your vision. Yet you could make out a faint light somewhere off to the side. The darkness was now gone. You began to push the sheet out of the way to see who it was that helped you. But a hand stopped you. You saw a flash of light gray socks and dark pants, before the blanket was pulled back down.
“Don’t worry about that right now. You can see me in the morning. For now, let’s get you back to bed.”
You were almost offended, but you couldn’t find the voice to object. Suddenly, you were very tired. The episode you’d just experienced had been extremely taxing on your body. As the adrenaline and fear faded, exhaustion and a slight headache came to replace it. A soft groan left your lips as your head returned to the pillow.
Still completely covered by the blanket, you could only see the silhouette of the mystery person sitting next to you.
“I’ll stay with you until you fall asleep, okay?”
You nodded, unsure if they could see your acceptance. Still, curiosity burned inside of you. In the quiet of the moment, you dared yourself to be brave. You moved your hand to the edge of the sheet, and slipped it underneath. Feeling your way toward the shadowy figure. The air was still and noticeably cooler outside of the blanket. Your bravery was soon rewarded. The mysterious figure gingerly took your hand in theirs, rubbing circular motions over your knuckles.
Sleep was finally setting in. The area now more calming and safe. Your consciousness faded to the sound of light humming from your unusual helper. You anticipated when you’d finally see them in the morning, but the longer you tried to think- the more incoherent your thoughts became until you lost all recollection of the night.

Premise: Khol’s sleep schedule isn’t perfect, but he seems to sleep better when you’re there. Or, at least, he tries to seem like he cares about improving his bad habits in front of you. Maybe he just loves to fall asleep on you and watch you wake up in the morning.
The rest of the story is under the cut.
In your sleep you could feel his hair tickling your face. This was usually how you woke up whenever you were staying at his house. You kept your eyes closed and frowned. He persisted anyway.
“Khol”, you moaned groggily. “If you poke my eye, I will kill you.”
The dream you were having quickly turned into a blur as you blinked yourself awake.
“Somebody’s grumpy today”, he murmured. His voice was low and smooth. It felt impossible that anyone could sound that good first thing in the morning, but your boyfriend’s sleep schedule was more like a last minute shopping list. Terribly fragmented with various items missing.
You had barely begun to stretch the last bit of sleep out of your body when his arm reached out to turn you over to him. He looked like he’d managed to get some sleep, at least. His eyes were puffy and his hair was everywhere. Sprawled out across his pillow and onto yours. The bed head was clearly on purpose. He was a hair monster. It’d be impossible for his hair to tangle by itself.
“Oh, so you think you’re cute enough to be the first thing I see today?”, you teased.
He just hummed and pulled you in closer. The smell of cologne wasn’t overpowering, but it was more noticeable with you snuggled into his chest and buried underneath his sheets. In fact, you probably smelled just like him right now. Khol inhaled deep before placing a kiss on top of your head, and then another. Of course, he loved that.
“Do you have anywhere to be?”, his voice came through muffled.
Yesterday, you had only meant to hang out with him after work. Between Zeke starting his classes and Phoebe working on her studies, Khol had been more needy than usual. Anyway, an hour turned into several more and suddenly it was nighttime. Khol had a spare set of pajamas for you. He always did. So you just threw your day clothes in the wash and decided to sleep over. The wash! you suddenly remembered.
Khol shifted back, his face coming into view again. “Honey?”
“I just remembered I never switched my clothes over to the dryer!”
He smiled, “I took care of it while you were asleep. They’re folded too”. His gaze drifted past you, and his smile faded a bit. “So, if you need to get ready then…”
You poked his cheek and tired gentle eyes fell back on you. “No. I don’t have work until later this evening.”
A long black strand curled around the finger you’d poked him with and his smile returned.
“Perfect”, he breathed.
