khatha found chan under the moonlight and named him after the moon. and chan gave khatha a piece of the moon, something to remind khatha of him, while they were looking up at the night sky together. and khatha destroyed chan’s body using that piece of the moon, alongside his only physical reminder of chan. and chan, after killing khatha in the same way he had been killed, put the pieces of that piece of the moon back together, a reminder of the memories they made together before everything ended in tragedy. and chan died in khatha’s arms looking up at the moon, thinking about that first night they looked up at the moon together, telling khatha he wishes they could do that again. i’m feeling sooooooooo normal about this

The weight of what Khatha carries, centuries of agony and guilt and love and a desperate need to protect both the world and Chan, to try to protect the man he loved above all others and the world that he doesn't want to see destroyed... because his love for Chan, his guilt over his death, has held him hostage for so long... and then when he goes to finally do what he knows he should have done but never could, what he can do now because Dome has stepped into his life but still can only barely begin because he still loves Chan, he still clings to that with desperation and then he finally swings and he loses Chan's body, his final promise to him and the final item he had from him, the final gift that he still kept from their time together.
(But even more, oh the pain, to know that he did leave Chan but also that he left him because there wasn't a space left for him at his side and how was he supposed to stay when Chan left first, when Chan went with Boon and left Khatha staring for the outside in?)
No wonder Khatha sent Dome away. How could he risk having him at his side when everyone leaves him, no matter what promise he makes or what they tell him?
