Instrumental ask : Conductor and English horn ?
Conductor: What's your favorite thing about band?
Well, technically I am in orchestra because you know, I play violin :D. But if I had to just choose one specific thing, it would be the feeling I get every time we perform the finished piece. It will without fail, put a smile on my face because we are creating something that others get to hear. (Cliche line coming up) We are also telling a story to people through music. It invokes different emotions to everyone and no one can be the judge as to what a piece means to them. I guess the short answer to this question is this: I enjoy the emotions I get when I play pieces and it makes me happy.
English Horn: What's the most difficult piece of music you've ever played?
Ahhhhhh! That's a hard question. When it comes to solo pieces, I would have to be between Zigeunerweisen and Mozart's Violin Concerto no. 3 in G major first movement. I unforunately picked one of the hardest cadenza's for this particular concerto and sometimes tilt my head at how I actually performed this.(If you're interested it's the Sam Franko Cadenza.)
Now when it comes to orchestral pieces, It's a tough tie between Rite of Spring(dissonance EVERYWHERE!) and Schittke's Concerto Grosso no. 3(just give it a listen, it's a complete roller coaster of what the fuck)
Sorry for the long response!
