Don’t be ridiculous. Would a person with a low opinion of themselves have THIS?

We were pretty young when darkstone was first discovered, but what we do remember is it wasn’t easy.

Valley was a very different place before the industrial era. People came here in hopes of being closer to the creatures and the stars, but the reality was a harsh, remote wilderness that we couldn’t sustain on our light alone. Supplies were scarce, and when the darkness outbreak came, we could have very easily lost everything.

If darkstone never existed, it’s possible we and our people could have survived, but the city you see today would never have come to be.

On the other hand…

Daleth/Isle - We were pretty young when Daleth lost their mind and shut themself off from the rest of us. They were pretty nice before that. But the last we remember, they were kicking our friend out of their home for (gasp) making their own decisions! Pretty sure they were actively trying to sabotage us too. Admittedly, their reasons make more sense now, but there’s not exactly a lot of goodwill there.

Ayin/Prairie - We never had much of a problem with them, but we weren’t very compatible. Ayin was the gentlest of us, and always kind. They had a slow, quiet approach to life, never caused trouble, but never had any ambition or took any risks, either. I mean, how boring is that?

Teth/Forest - We had a good working relationship, but it was strictly professional. We always admired their drive to innovate and dedication to their work. They seemed to just find us annoying.

Tsadi/Wasteland -

We used to be close. Now we’re not.

That is quite a complicated question, isn’t it? Well, we don’t want to bore you with a history lesson. So instead, imagine this:

Imagine you came into the world broken and confused. Imagine the stares, the whispers, the doubt creeping in. Imagine everyone underestimating you. Belittling you. Worst of all, pitying you.

Imagine there was someone who refused to do any of that.

Imagine this person is harsh, but no more than you already are to yourselves. Unlike you, they forgive your mistakes. They build you up instead of tearing you down. They ground you when you lose yourselves. They teach you discipline and help you find your balance. They are a fortress, always there to protect you, yet they also give you the tools to protect yourselves. They help you stand on your own, and when you succeed, you make them proud.

Imagine you share the same vision for a better future, and you know you can depend on them to help make it a reality. It won’t be easy, and sacrifices will need to be made, but they never back away from a challenge. Because they want what is best for you – for everyone.

Imagine they abandon you.

Imagine they denounce all the progress you’ve made together, threaten to tear it all down and bring the world back to the stone age. Imagine they refuse to compromise. Imagine they declare war on you and your entire way of life. Imagine they set their own home on fire and blame you for trying to quench it.

Imagine they almost get their way.

Imagine the closest thing to family you’ve ever had. Now imagine not being able to look them in the eye.

And in the end, you’re left with your thoughts, wondering what you might say to them if you had the chance.
