I was cleaning out a drawer yesterday and found the key my youngest daughter had given me when she left for college. Since I think the statute of limitations has expired I will say where she got it. In her senior year at IND Allie lifted an old key that had probably opened a door in the convent (and Sr Hildy, who knew everything, probably knew she did it.) I kept the key on my keyring for years and then somehow it got put away. Maybe it was the impact of holding the oyster shells in my hand (see prior blog entry) that gave me the idea. Today I visited Aunt Kitty and gave her the key. IND commands great love from all who ever attended her, my mother, aunts, cousins and daughter among them. I could feel it too as I saw the expression on my aunt’s face when she realized where the key was from. She held it reverently and smiled. There is something about holding a memory in your hands.
