Summary: Meetings are twice as insufferable now. It doesnât matter if itâs over the phone, over Zoom, or in-person. Stewy slips in the odd innuendo as he asks about the pros and cons of a media plan.
It starts with Grant.
Itâs not that youâve avoided telling him about being with Stewy, it just hasnâtâŚCome up.
âGuess who asked to grab drinks,â Stewy says as you unload the takeout for that nightâs dinner.
âColbert?â
Stewy chuckles before correcting: âGrant.â
You go still for just a moment before setting down a container of white rice.
âYou gonna go?â You ask.
âThought I would, yeah.â
âOkay.â Then, before you can stop yourself, âYou gonna fuck him?â
You feel more than see the way Stewy turns to look at you. You can imagine his expressionâlips twisted into an intrigued smile, brows tipping skyward as he watches and waits for you to say something else. You stay carefully quiet, beginning to sort through the sauce packets.
âDo you want me to fuck him?â Stewy asks after a moment.
âWhy would I want that?â
âI donât know. Sometimes you feel bad when your friends arenât gettinâ any.â
âOh, please,â You scoff. âThis is not that. Iâm just asking, âcauseâŚI donât know, you two seemed pretty into each other in Vegas.â
âHeâs hot.â
âYeah, he is.â
âDoes he bottom?â
âYouâd have to ask him, though Iâm stunned that didnât come up between the two of you before.â
â...Are you seriously sorting the duck sauce and soy sauce into different piles?â
âI like to be organized.â
You glance toward Stewy, and find him watching you with the stunned little look you thought heâd have. You sigh softly, looking down at the piles of sauce packets.
âYou donât think heâd tell you if we did?â
âI dunnoâŚProbably? I havenât told him yet.â
âAbout?â
âThis,â You wave a finger between the two of you.
âOh, I see,â Stewy teases, sidling up beside you. âAre we engaging in a clandestine affair?â
âYouâre suchâŚâ You start to call Stewy an asshole, but you stop, considering. Heâs just teasing you; heâs not being mean about it.
âSuch?â Stewy asks.
âA ham,â You insist softly. You reach up, pulling him in for a gentle kiss. Stewy hums, pleased, and wraps his arm around your middle.
âWhat were you gonna say?â He asks knowingly.
âSomething mean and unwarranted.â
âNice catch.â
âUh-huh.â
â...Douche-canoe?â
âOh, nothing nearly as fun as that.â
--
The text you get from Grant after he sees Stewy is fairly straightforward:
I FUCKING KNEW IT BITCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-- Â
Michael finding out is a complete accident.
Youâve been working up to public affection with Stewy. Itâs a little hard for it to be a ramping and not simply a launch. Stewy is so easily casually affectionate, quick to touch your arm, your shoulder, your waist; to drop a peck to your cheek or neck or lips; to cuddle up against you in line and make fun of the fellow patrons in murmured tones.
So you suppose that Michaelâs finding out is sort ofâŚinevitable. You blame yourself, honestly. Youâve started to relax, youâve loosened up. You donât look over your shoulder when youâre out in public with Stewy anymore. You let yourself get caught up in him.
So you donât think anything of it when he turns you on line at Starbucks and leans in for a kiss. You do think, for a moment, that youâve become the sort of gooey, dopey couples that annoy the shit out of youâthe ones that are lovey-dovey in public, that feed each other off of their forks and use disgusting pet names like cuddlechops and gigglepuss.
âWhat was that for?â You mumble as Stewy leans away just a little.
âWhyâs it have to be for anything?â Stewy counters, turning his head and pressing a kiss to your cheek. You huff a soft laugh through your nose, giving his arm a squeeze to spur him on as the line moves forward.
âI thought that was you,â You hear. Your heart sinks into your stomach as you turn to see Michael standing in front of you at the line. If Stewy is at all concerned, he doesnât let it show. He just curls his arm around your waist with a smile, greeting, âHey, Mikey.â
Michael is smiling mirthlessly, his eyes narrowed critically at you. You feel about an inch tall under his scrutiny.
âCan we get your coffee?â Stewy adds, nodding toward the counter as you inch closer.
âBy âweâ, he means him,â You clarify.
âWonât even spring for coffee?â
âThey donât pay me enough to spring for three of these, Stew.â
âDonât get my coffee, just tell me what the hell is happening,â Michael says, waving his fingers between the two of you.
âWhatâs it look like? Weâre getting breakfast,â Stewy answers breezily before stepping up to the counter as the person ahead of you steps away. Before Michael can ask again, Stew glances back and asks you, âYour usual, babe?â
âUh-huh.â You fold your arms across your chest, glancing nervously at Michael. His face is twisting in confusion and shock.
âMikey, sure you don't want anything?â Stewy adds. Michael just raises his hand, scrubbing his hands across his eyes as he turns to leave.
âIâm getting a headache,â He mumbles.
--
You go into the office on tenterhooks. You wait for a boss to call you into an office somewhere, to make you aware of company ethics policies. You do get a glare from over the top of Michaelâs laptop as you pass him on the way to your desk, but he says nothing. The two of you work together in moderately stony silence for most of the morning, hardly meeting one anotherâs eyes, or speaking unless itâs absolutely necessary.
You dread your 11 oâclock meeting with him and one of your other clients. The two of you sit across from one another, each working with laser-focus on your laptops as you wait for the client to dial in.
Youâd typically just let the silence hold, and sit and wait, but you canât bring yourself to now. You feel ready to crawl out of your skin with the tension.
âSo?â You speak up. Michaelâs eyes flicker to you, brows arching curiously. You swallow thickly before pressing: âDo you wanna talk about it?â
âNot really.â
â...Can we talk about it anyway?â
Michael sighs heavily, leaning back in his seat.
âHas this been going on since Vegas?â He asks.
âWhat? No!â
âYou sure?â
âWhy do you ask that?â
âThe two of you were there together.â
âI swear to god, that was a coincidence.â
âWhen, then?â
âUhâŚGod, likeâŚFour months ago?â
âSeems serious.â
âI meanâŚI guess.â
âYou guess.â
âIt hasnât affected my work, it has not affected my contributions to their accountââ
âHell, I bet itâs made your work harder.â
â...Câmon.â
Michael rolls his eyes a little, turning back to his laptop.
âWeâre even,â He mutters.
âWhat?â
âYou didnât tell them about me asking you toâYou know. I wonât say anything aboutâŚYou know. Weâre even.â
â...I mean Iâd say yours was worseâŚBut thank you.â
Michael rolls his eyes, then springs into action as the clientâs voice floats up from the muted conference phone.
--
âWhatâs going on up there?â
â...Hmm?â
Stewy presses a tender kiss to your temple, sliding his hand over your shoulder.
âWhere are you?â
âIâm right here,â You laugh softly, tipping your head up to look at him.
âYour head is all over the place, baby.â
â...Yeah, a little. Sorry.â
âSo?â Stewy asks.
âI donât know, justâŚRunning into Michaelââ
âHe say something to you?â
âWeâre fine. Thatâs all fine.â
âYou sure?â
âTotally fine.â
âWell you said âfineâ three times, so it must be true.â
âDonât,â You groan softly, pulling yourself off of his couch.
âDonât what!â Stewy laughs. âIâm asking a question. Youâve been distracted all night. I want attention.â
âSo needy.â
âI can call Tiff over.â
You shoot Stewy an irritated look before reaching his bar cart.
âYou want one?â You ask, holding up the bottle of scotch.
âSee? Thatâs more like it.â
âYes or no, Stewart.â
âYes, and please.â
âPlease, wow,â You mutter. âGood boy.â
âCareful, baby. Iâm gonna get hard over here.â
âShut up,â You chuckle, pouring Stewy two fingers worth. âCome and get it yourself, Iâm still making my drink.â
âWhy didnât you pour mine right before you came back?â
âCause I know youâre a lazy bastard and I estimate a minimum of six people have brought you drinks today, so come and get one for yourself.â
âHow do you figure that?â He asks as he pushes himself off of the couch.
âHave you gotten your own coffee today?â
â...No.â
âHow many did you have?â
âFour.â
âAaaand did you have water at your office? The ones that come in those fancy-ass glass bottles?â
â...Uh-huh.â
âTwo?â
âDo you have cameras installed in my office?â
âNo, but that tells me that Iâm right.â You give Stewy a cheeky smile as he comes to stand beside you. He leans against the counter beside you, watching you make your drink.
â...I talked to Michael today,â You admit.
âSounds predictable, since you uhâyou work together.â
âI mean I spoke to him about us.â
âAnd?â
âIt was fine.â
âFine again. So whatâs got you all out of your head here?â
âI donât know, I guessâŚâ Your eyes train carefully as you fill your glass. âI guessâŚIâm just surprised that weâre still kinda doing this.â
âBeing together?â
âYeah.â
âWhy?â
âCause when we met, you drove me fucking nutsâWell, not exactly when we met, though you did piss me off during the presentation.â
âWhat! Howâd I do that?â
âYou fucking smirked, dude. I wanted to slap your stupid handsome face.â
âYou can slap it now if you want.â
âNah.â
âWhy not?â
âYouâd enjoy it too much.â

Meetings are twice as insufferable now. It doesnât matter if itâs over the phone, over Zoom, or in-person. Stewy slips in the odd innuendo as he asks about the pros and cons of a media plan. It used to be a little irritating, but itâs so much worse now that Michael knows whatâs going on. He was suspicious of you and Stewyâs interactions before. Now, all of the signs seem so much more obvious; he seems stunned that he missed them at all. You canât help but notice the way he bites his tongue or rolls his eyes.
Stewy notices it, too.
--
âYouâre no fun anymore.â
âTell that to my sore jaw.â
âThatâs not what I mean,â Stewy groans, pushing your hip to turn you over in bed. You go, settling on your side and tucking your hand under your head.
âWhat do you mean, then?â
âWhen weâre at work.â
âI canât just give into every single goad you level at me.â
âYou donât give into any of them anymore. That used to be half the fun.â
âWhat was the other half?â
âMaking money.â
âWell, youâre still doing that.â
âThatâs true.â
âSmall wonder.â
You smile as Stewyâs eyes flicker to your face.
âIâll start being a bitch at work again, okay?â
âThank you,â Stewy sighs, flopping back in bed.
âYouâre such a big baby,â You mutter, reaching out and skimming your hand over his middle.
â...Michaelâs over it,â He comments.Â
âMichaelâs been over it. I think heâs been over it for a long time, you know. Before he really knew.â
You glance up and see Stewyâs brow furrowing as he repositions his head on the pillow to get a better look at you. You hesitate before adding:
âWhen you asked us to the bar on a Saturday, way back when, to talk about the strategy to take over ATNâŚHe said that weâd been weird, and that he knew the difference between you flirting with someone and you fucking around with someone.â
âWhich one did he think I was doing?â
âI donât know,â You shake your head, âI shut the conversation down.â
Stewy is quiet for a moment, his eyes darting to the window as he hums thoughtfully.
âIf youâre about to admit that this was all a Sheâs All That-esque bet, Iâm gonna trash one of your bathrooms,â You add.
âWhat if I need that one?â
âYou have two more.â
âThatâs true. Go nuts.â
You smile, shaking your head and lowering your eyes to his chest.
â...Were you fucking with me?â You ask quietly.
âNo.â
âNever?â
âWell, when you say fucking with youââ
âOh, god.â
âNo, câmon,â Stewy pushes himself up to lean back against his elbows, and you shift back, eyeing him warily. âI didnât fuck around likeâŚFor fun. I mean, watching steam come out of your ears like a looney tune, thatâs one of my favorite thingsââ
âGreat.â
ââBut thatâs likeâI mean we fuck around with each other.â
âSo you never did it just for fun.â
â...Look, was it immature, was it like pulling your pigtails on the playground? Yeah, a little. But you fuckinâ pulled mine, too.â
You consider and settle back onto the bed.
âThatâs true.â
âExactly.â Stewy slides down beside you, dropping a kiss to your neck and trailing them down to your breasts. You press up against his lips, running your fingers through his hair.
âHey,â He murmurs.
âMm?â
âIâve got this conference that I need to go to next week.â
âUgh, great. You gonna give me a key to get in here and drink all your alcohol and eat all your food?â
Stewy rolls off of the bed, walking over to his pants, and you frown, pushing yourself up onto your elbows and watching him rifle around in his pants pockets. Wellâhonestly, you pay more attention to his ass as he bends over, so you miss him throwing something under his arm and calling out, âCatch.â
You half-leap off of the bed, but your foot is tangled in the sheets. As you try to catch whatever it is, you topple onto the floor. You land on your ass in shock, but break out laughing, unable to help it even as Stewy runs around the bed to see if youâre alright.
âAre you okay?â
âDamn, Hosseini, warn a girl,â You laugh, looking up at him. âWhat the hell did you even throw?â
âYou didnât catch it?â
âI didnât see where it went!â
âOh, my god,â Stewy sits on the floor beside you, âFuck, youâre awful. Did you hit your head?â
âI donât think so.â Youâre still giggling as you sit up, reaching up to unwrap the sheets from where theyâre still wound around your foot and ankle. You glance at Stewy and find him gazing at you fondly.
âWhat!â You laugh, looking around, âWhat the hell was it, anyway? It was likeâŚTiny.â
âIt wasnât that small.â
Stewy looks around, frowning, before he leans forward, reaching out under the dresser.
âGot it?â
âI think soâŚItâs either that or a very cold, very long, very dead spider.â
âFucking gross,â You mutter. Stewy leans back with something in his hand, and you watch him dust it off before he holds it up. Your eyes slide to it, but it takes a few moments for you to process what heâs holding out.
â...Whereâd you get that?â
âFrom under the dresser,â Stewy deadpans. Your jaw works wordlessly for a moment, and when you take too long, Stewy takes hold of your hand and drops the key into it.
â...Whatâs this for?â
âFor you to get in here and drink all of my alcohol and eat all of my food.â
âI wasnât serious about that.â
âWell, I am.â
You look up at Stewy as he leans back against the bed.
âSince when?â
âUhâSince I went to get the key made.â
âSo it was a split-second decision?â
âHave you ever known me to make split-second decisions?â
âOne word, Hosseini: Colbert.â
âThat old excuse.â Stewy huffs a laugh through his nose before his eyes lower into his lap. â...Look, you donât have to take it, but I want you to have it,â He admits.
You smile, getting up onto your knees and shuffling over to straddle Stewyâs thigh.
âBesides, Iâve seen your apartment,â Stewy adds, running his hands over your thighs. âI just think it would be nice for you to spend some more time in a place that isnât, you knowâŚA hovel.â
âFuck, not this again.â
âIâm justââ
âJust because I donât have central airââ
âOr a functioning kitchen. Itâs like you live in the fuckinâ Stone Age.â
âSo I shouldnât make you a key to mine, too?â
âI mean itâd be a cute gesture.â
âMm, but you wouldnât use it.â
âOh, I would. Iâd order upgrades and let workmen inâYou know what, make me two.â
âYou know how Iâve been working on not unduly insulting you?â
âUh-huh.â
âYouâre a dickhead.â
Stewy grins, curling his arms around your waist.
âYou wouldnât have me any other way, baby.â
