It does break my heart a bit every time I am reminded how he became a monster due to the loss of his daughter. He clearly was already spiraling at the loss of his wife but had enough strength within him to persevere in order to be there for Isobel.
And then she died.
How she died never ended up getting revealed in my gameplay but bringing her back was his sole motivation, and finally having his one joy in life, his beautiful little daughter whose childish note proclaiming her love for him he kept on his person until his final breath, returned to him… it makes it very easy to see how he decided his own soul was worth the exchange, how he would do anything that was commanded of him in repayment.
It reminds me of how I've considered the possibility of Orianna questioning her own faith, if her adopted father ever did finally get claimed by the land of the dead. I think she would feel pity for Ketheric, but feel more resolute in her self-discipline that she must never fall that way.
