okay so a big part of Lil Nas X's social/musical experience comes from him being a Nicki Minaj stan, but he couldn't openly embrace that part of him out of fear that he would be perceived as gay.
Fast forward to when he starts getting big and people dig up connections to him and his old barbz stan twitter, and he denies it because, again, he wasn't comfortable with being in proximity to something the black/rap community would pick on as gay man behavior.
Then he comes out on his own terms (more or less, speculation about the Nicki stan account was already causing rumors about his sexuality, and that could have put pressure on him after OTR). As he is now publicly gay, he opens up about his love for Nicki Minaj and how much he admired her, and finally admits to having ran the stan account toxic Barbz kept pushing him about.
Now, at this point, it's already an unfortunate case of repressed passion, an expense that comes from trying to meet the superfluous standards of black masculinity, a struggle made so much harder for someone as expressively gay as LNX.
But THEN apparently Nicki Minaj, in this twitter exchange where he is explaining why he did not "claim to be a Barb" before coming out, says that "it was a bit of a sting" for him to not say he was a fan of hers.
Mind you, he never breathed a word against her, never said that liking her music was demeaning or unmasculine in any way. He literally just denied running a fucking stan twitter account, and that hurt her feelings? What? And then all of the replies under the tweet are all "you shouldn't have denied you were a Barb"
Like ??? what fucking part of him being a closeted gay man do these obsessed idiots not understand...
And now with LNX's new song "The Sun Goes Down" and him mentioning being a Nicki Minaj fan once again, these same negative and ignorant people want to say that he's clout chasing and using Nicki's name even though he didn't claim it from the get go. I just,,,,, I don't even really care about celebrities, but I am so tired of people appraising each other and looking to see who's a "real fan" of whichever bullshit media or creator that's in the news on a given day. Brain rotted twitter stans will be understanding and defensive of the woman who married and had kids with a convicted r*pist and works closely with p*dos, but somehow have no empathy for how people act when they are under pressure to appear a certain way at the very beginning of their career in a deeply homophobic industry. Absolute idiots lmao
