Un articolo che verrà pubblicato sulla rivista "The Astronomical Journal" riporta uno studio su tre esopianeti gassosi scoperti nel sistema di Kepler 51 appartenenti a un raro tipo che ha una densità molto bassa anche per gli standard di questi pianeti. Un team di ricercatori guidato da Jessica Libby-Roberts, una studentessa dell'Università del Colorado a Boulder, ha usato il telescopio spaziale Hubble per studiare quei tre esopianeti confermando la loro densità così bassa da meritare soprannomi come "pianeti di zucchero filato" o "super-gonfio" (super puff). Questo studio suggerisce che stanno rapidamente perdendo massa perciò nel lontano futuro potrebbero trasformarsi in mini-Nettuno, una categoria molto più comune.
