Everything hurts.Â
You canât focus through the haziness in your mind; the feeling of sweaty bodies pushing and shoving against you. The pulsing beat of the music just makes the pounding in your head worse. You shouldnât have hit the blunt, you shouldnât have taken those shots. One or the other, y/n, never both. Suna was right. Never both.Â
You canât help the tears on your face as people dance around you. No one notices anyway. The panic in your heart is distracting from the pain in your head. You donât know how youâre going to get out of here, how youâre going to recover. Where are you, Suna?
You don't know why you keep doing this; why you keep sabotaging yourself in hope that Suna will notice you. All you want is for him to really see you, to recognize you as more than just a roommate and friend. You love him, and itâs killing you.
Maybe Kaiyaâs right. Maybe itâs time to move on. Maybe itâs time to put yourself first. Maybe you need to get over your stupid childhood crush. Maybe, maybe, maybe.Â
Itâs easy to forget about the maybes when you feel Suna Rintarouâs hands lift you up, carrying you home.Â
---
Your bleary eyes open to the brightness of your apartmentâs living room. You groan as you try to sit up, last nightâs headache still going strong. You donât remember how you got home; you barely remember what happened at the party. Youâre stumbling your way through the apartment, aiming for your bedroom, when youâre stopped by a shirtless Suna, who looks incredibly pissed off. You cringe; you arenât really in the mood for a lecture this morning. Unfortunately for you, Suna does not care.
âMind explaining what happened last night, angel?â
You groan, shoving your way past his tattooed body, not stopping until youâre face down on your bed. âCan you at least wait until Iâm not hungover? I donât even know what happened last night.â
The bed dips down as he takes a seat. âThatâs what Iâm concerned about.â
âOh, fuck off, Sunarin. Youâre not my dad.â You know heâs getting frustrated with you, but you honestly donât care.Â
He sighs, âY/n, Iâm just worried about you. This isnât like you.â
Flipping over, you roll your eyes. âWhat is âlike meâ, then? Hm? Staying in, finishing all of my homework, going to bed at eight? Cooking dinner so you have something to eat when you inevitably come home shit-faced? You do this shit all the time, Suna. Why canât I?â
He stands, the bed returning to normal. âGet some sleep. Weâll talk later.â
You huff a laugh as you close your eyes. âYeah, okay.â
---
You wake up again in the afternoon to your phone buzzing. Itâs Kaiya, probably calling to lecture you about the party last night. You decline the call and head out to the living room. If you want the full story of what happened, youâre going to have to talk to Suna eventually.Â
Heâs laying on the couch, long legs spread across the entire thing. You pick up his legs and sit, dropping them back on your lap. He gives you a long look before setting his phone down.
âYouâre alive.â
âIndeed I am.â He still doesnât look very happy, and the small part of you that wants to please him is upset.Â
âReady to talk?â
You sigh, fiddling with a thread on your leggings. âI guess.â
Suna sits up, giving you his full attention. âYou know Iâm just worried about you, right, angel?â You nod. âOkay, good. Come here.â
You allow him to pull you into a hug, even though you know you shouldnât. He keeps his arms around you as you talk. âI went to the party, hit a blunt, and took a few shots, thatâs it.â
âYou know you arenât supposed to mix those.â
âI know,â you exhale, âbut I was bored.â
âI donât buy that for a second. You only go to parties with me or your other friends, and I know none of us were there. Whyâd you really go?â
âI donât know. You do it all the time, so I thought maybe I could too.â
âAnd what did we learn?â
You smile into his chest. âThat I cannot do it too.â
âGood girl.â
---
Youâre making dinner later that evening when Suna walks towards the front door.
âIâll be back later, y/n.â
You definitely saw this coming. âOkay.â
You finish dinner and eat alone at the kitchen table, texting with Kaiya. She lectures you about the party and Suna, but youâre too tired to particularly care. You think about your words to Suna earlier as you finish your homework and watch TV. You were right; when he comes home tonight, there will be dinner in the fridge for him, and youâll already be in bed, homework for the weekend finished. Another Saturday night spent alone in the apartment, with nothing but your thoughts to keep you company.Â
Suna calls at eleven, predictable as always.Â
âWhat, Sunarin?â
âJust wanted to hear your voice.â
You scoff into your phone. âThereâs chicken and rice in the fridge for you when you get home.â Bringing the phone down from your ear, youâre about to click end, when he interrupts.Â
âI love you, angel.â
Your heart hurts, hearing him say those words and knowing that he doesnât really mean it. âLove you too, Rin.â
âYou know I mean it, right? Love is so weird, like, thereâs so many different kinds of love.â Setting your phone down on your nightstand, you click the speaker button and get into bed. He always does this when heâs high, going off on random tangents, and you are often the victim. âThereâs platonic love, romantic love, sexual love, all sorts. Itâs weird, isnât it?â You hum your assent, knowing he wonât continue unless he knows youâre listening. âEven out of all the different kinds of love, I think youâre the only person Iâve ever really, truly, loved.â That sends a pang to your heart, and you clutch your chest. âI donât think Iâll ever stop loving you, even-â
âOkay, Rin, thatâs enough.â Your heart is slowly breaking, and you canât take it anymore. âItâs late.â
âOkay, angel, I love you.â
âLove you too, Rin.â
You hang up with a soft sigh as tears roll down your cheeks. He wonât remember this in the morning, he never does. At this point, itâs a predictable routine: heâll leave, get drunk and high and god knows what else, call you and say heartfelt shit he doesnât mean, and then come home later with a girl from whatever party he went to.Â
It hurts. Itâs like having your heart broken every single day. Heâs been doing this since you started college two years ago, but even in high school, he was always sneaking out and sleeping around.Â
Honestly, you arenât sure how youâve managed to remain loyally by his side for all these years. Granted, youâve never really tried to push him away. Even if you werenât hopelessly in love with him, you doubt that you would ever try to end your friendship. Heâs your oldest friend, and sometimes, it feels like heâs your only true friend. Youâve always had problems making friends and keeping them, but Sunaâs been there through it all. You canât imagine your life without him, even if you sometimes wish you could.Â
You consider Kaiya a close friend as well, but you havenât known her as long as youâve known Suna. You only met her during orientation your first year of college. Kaiyaâs sweet and trustworthy, but you donât think your friendship with her could be like the one you have with Suna. That deep understanding of each other comes with time, you guess.Â
You yet again consider what Kaiya has said to you. She knows about your desperate love for Suna, and she knows how much it hurts you. You know sheâs probably right when she tells you that you need to find someone else, that you need to move on, but itâs incredibly hard when youâve loved the same person for as long as you can remember. Maybe you really do need to move on.Â
---
As predicted, youâre woken up at three in the morning to crashing in the living room and the telltale sound of a random girlâs moans. You wipe your teary eyes and pull up your messages to Kaiya, only sending two simple words.

Suna Rintarou: your oldest childhood friend, your longest (unrequited) love, your college roommate. Sunaâs scandalous reputation is getting worse, and you vow to find another love interest before you get entangled in his sinful ways. The only problem? Sunaâs always been right here.
tw: alcohol, marijuana, profanity, mentions of sex
authorâs note: hey kenma
In the early hours of Sunday morning, you are woken up by shouting and crashing. You squeeze your eyes shut at the noise. It must be what you and Kaiya refer to as âwitching hourâ: when Suna kicks the girl he slept with the night before out in the morning. It often results in a one-sided yelling match and the living room in disarray. Youâve learned not to keep anything valuable in throwing range after your framed photos came crashing down and your expensive PC was almost ruined.
The door slams, and you breathe out a sigh of relief. When witching hour does not end with a slamming door, it normally ends with another round of angry morning sex or an âSOSâ text from Suna. You arenât sure which is worse; listening to the girlâs moans or having to pretend to be the betrayed girlfriend when Suna canât get his one-night stands to leave. You should heed Kaiyaâs advice and just tell him no, but youâre in far too deep.
Maybe now, after you have officially declared yourself done with Suna Rintarou, you will be able to say no.
---
âYouâre hot as fuck.â
You glance up at messy black hair and cat-like eyes before recognition sets in. âAnd youâre sleeping with my best friend.â This must be Kuroo, Kaiyaâs latest boy-toy. Sheâs shown you pictures and told you all about him, but you havenât met him in person. Until now, apparently.
âWho?â
You roll your eyes and close the textbook you were reading. âKaiya.â
âOh,â Kuroo chuckles, âSheâs hot as fuck.â
You see Kaiya approaching behind Kuroo and begin to pack up your things as she presses a sloppy kiss to his lips. âI have not had enough caffeine for this.â
Kaiya pulls away long enough to mumble a âsee you later, y/nâ while you grab your backpack and walk out of the library. Mondays are always the worst with back-to-back classes and labs. You turn the corner to head to the campus coffee shop when you run into a hard chest. Hands grab your shoulders to steady you, and an apology starts slipping from your lips as you look up at whoever you bumped into.
You register the bleached hair and dark roots first, then the guyâs soft-spoken voice when he apologizes.
âItâs alright, itâs my fault. Sorry for bumping into you.â You turn away, but he stops you with a hand on the wrist.
âUm, actually, were you heading to the coffee shop? I think I recognize you from my next lecture, and Iâd like to buy you a coffee as an apology for running into you.â
Youâre taken aback by his kindness, and now that youâve taken a closer look at him, youâre pretty sure you recognize him as Kozume Kenma, a computer science major who sits in front of you in statistics. âKozume, right? Youâre in my stats class.â
He nods, âKenmaâs fine. Did you wanna go get coffee before class?â
You smile and follow him, giving him your order before finding a table near the window. You still have about half an hour before class, plenty of time to sit and get to know Kenma better. Kaiya would be proud; Kenma could be the key to getting over Suna for good.
Kenma returns with the drinks before taking the seat across from you. You talk about your majors and agree to work on the upcoming stats project together. Youâre getting ready to leave when a girl you donât recognize comes up to you.
âY/n, right?â Her voice is hesitant and sheâs wringing her hands.
âYeah, whatâs up?â
âI just wanted to apologize, Iâm not sure if you already know, I had no idea and if I did, I would never have done it- â
âWhat happened?â Sheâs tearing up now, and you have no clue what sheâs talking about.
âI-I slept with your boyfriend, Iâm so, so sorry, he didnât tell me he had a girlfriend.â You see Kenmaâs eyebrows raise at your confused expression, but the girlâs next words put everything into place. âSuna, he never told me, and Iâm so sorry if this is how youâre finding out, but heâs not a good guy, y/n. Iâm not the first girl and I doubt Iâll be the last.â
You put on a face of distress and allow tears to well up in the corners of your eyes. âThank you for telling me. Iâll talk to him.â You place a hand on your chest in agony as she pats your shoulder gently before walking away. Fucking Suna, feeding this girl lies to protect himself. You massage your temples after she leaves the shop, all of your fake tears gone. Kenmaâs watching you carefully, obviously confused at what just transpired. You shoulder your backpack and stand up, âYou ready to go?â
He nods, âWhat just happened?â
Sighing, you prepare your story. âYou know Suna Rintarou?â Kenma nods. âHeâs my best friend and my roommate, and whenever he has a girl that wonât leave him alone, he always tells them that Iâm his girlfriend.â
Kenmaâs subtle look of disgust resembles Kaiyaâs when you first told her. âNo offence or anything, but thatâs super shitty.â
You look away and sigh. âI know.â
The two of you continue your walk to your stats lecture until you feel an arm snake around your shoulders. You donât have to turn to know that itâs Suna; you recognize the weight of his arm, the spicy sweet scent of his cologne, the feeling of his breath on your neck.
âHey, angel. Whoâs this?â
Kenma obviously didnât notice and is taken by surprise, jumping slightly when he turns. You gesture to Kenma and turn your head to address Suna. âThis is Kenma from my stats class.â Your eyes narrow when you spot the smell of marijuana on Sunaâs breath and a few more hickeys on his neck that he didnât have this morning. âArenât you supposed to be in modern art?â
He shrugs, a playful grin on his face. âMaybe, maybe not.â
When you reach the lecture hall, Sunaâs arm drops from your shoulders, and he presses a kiss to your cheek. âSee you later, angel. Iâm making dinner tonight, your favorite, so donât be late!â
You collapse into a chair next to Kenma, groaning as he pats your back. âAre you okay?â
âMaybe, maybe not.â
---
After stats, you head to the quad with Kenma to meet with Kaiya before you head home for the day. On the way there, you explain your background with Suna and your current frustrations. Kenma listens intently, offering advice when needed. When you spot Kaiya and wave goodbye to him, youâre feeling infinitely better.
âSo, are you planning to elaborate on Saturday nightâs text?â
You toss your backpack onto the ground and slump on the bench as Kaiya passes you an iced coffee. You sip slowly, getting your thoughts in order before you rant to her. âWell, he lectured me after I went to that party alone Friday night- â
âA truly dumb idea.â
You roll your eyes at her interruption before continuing.
â-And everything was fine, until he left again Saturday night. As usual, he called me at eleven to tell me how much he loves me and all that shit, then brought home another girl.â
âOh Suna, predictable as always.â She nudges you gently. âSo, youâre done? For good this time?â
You sigh, âIâm going to try. I canât do it anymore. It hurts too much.â
She pulls you into a hug. âI know, y/n. Thisâll be good for you, I promise.â Kaiya pulls away, her smile promising vengeance. âKenma, huh? I saw you two together today. Heâs Kurooâs best friend, you know. Heâs quiet at first, but Kurooâs told me all about him. Heâd be a good replacement for Suna.â
You frown at her. âI donât want to replace Suna, and I donât want to use Kenma.â
âWhatever,â she shrugs, âheâs hot as fuck, and according to Kuroo, quite the ladiesâ man.â
You let her tell you all about Kenma until Kuroo comes out of class to walk her home. Apparently, Kenma frequents the same parties that Suna does, and is known to partake in similar activities. Heâs lesser known than Suna on campus, because of his quiet exterior, but he always comes out of his shell at parties. Kaiya shows you a video of him pouring vodka down a girlâs throat at a party last week, and if it werenât for the same grown-out bleached hair, you wouldnât believe it was him. Heâs hot, has a good personality, and has treated you well so far. Thereâs a party tonight (on a fucking Monday) that Kenma and Kuroo will be at, and you wave goodbye to Kaiya with a plan to meet her and the boys there tonight.
---
Sunaâs in the kitchen when you arrive at the apartment, cooking as promised. Dinner is a silent affair; youâre preoccupied with homework and the party tonight, and Sunaâs swiping on Tinder.
You get ready for the party and head for the door, only to be stopped by Suna.
âWhere are you going all dressed up on a Monday, angel?â
You shake his arm off and busy yourself with slipping into your shoes. âOut with Kaiya.â
His displeasure is obvious. âReally? Every time you go out with her you end up calling me to pick you up because she ditches you.â
Rolling your eyes, you open the front door. âDonât worry, I wonât bother you tonight.â
âThatâs not what I meant, angel, I- â
You slam the door behind you without another look back.
---
Kaiya is nowhere to be found when you arrive, which you expected. You set off on your own, determined to at least get drunk enough to forget about the disappointment on Sunaâs face when you left. Your phone keeps buzzing; you know heâs trying to text and call you to apologize and figure out whatâs wrong, but you shut it off completely.
Three drinks in, thereâs still no sign of Kaiya. You spot Kenma lighting a blunt on the back porch and join him instead.
âHey.â You slide the glass door open as he looks over at you.
âHey, I didnât know youâd be here tonight.â
âKaiya invited me, although I have no idea where she is.â You shrug and take the offered blunt, breathing in deep.
âReally? Sheâs with Kuroo tonight. Something about date night. I was kicked out of the apartment.â
You raise your eyebrows and scoff. You love Kaiya, but at times like these it feels like you arenât really friends. âInteresting.â
When the blunt is nearly gone and you both feel the effects of your high, Kenma leans in close.
âYou know, Iâm really glad that the girl was wrong earlier. Itâd be a shame if you were dating Suna.â
You giggle at his words, your eyes locked on his. âAnd whyâs that?â
âBecause youâre my type.â Kenma takes the last hit off the blunt; you watch as his eyes narrow and become clouded over with lust as he leans in ever so closer. âAnd I really want to fuck you tonight.â
He presses his lips to yours; youâre caught by surprise and your lips open, giving him the perfect opportunity to blow the smoke into your mouth and down your throat.
Your mind goes gloriously blank at the action, caught between I canât believe he just did that and that was the hottest thing Iâve ever experienced. You let yourself drown in the feeling of his lips on yours, of his hands on your body, all thoughts of Suna gone from the haziness of your mind.

considered a god in his own right, oikawa tooru always gets what he wants. and now, his sights are set on you.
tw: mafia elements, profanity, blood, human trafficking, alcohol use
Oikawa Tooru hates his job.
Thatâs all he can think about when he walks out of the elevator and deeper into the heart of his building.
âLord Oikawa, there are three of them, in the fourth room on your left, sir.â
Oikawa sighs as he runs a hand through his hair. âHow many times do I have to tell you to drop the honorifics, Kindaichi? My father is Lord Oikawa, I am not.â
The man in question, Kindaichi, bows his head. âYes, sir.â
âKindaichi.â
âYes, Tooru.â
Oikawa sighs. âThank you.â
When he turns the handle to the room in which the victims are held, he pauses for a second. He may hate his job, but this is the most rewarding part of it. He will always do whatever he can to help people escape his fatherâs clutches.
Oikawa steps in and immediately sees Iwaizumi standing before the glass partition. Itâs best this way; the one-way glass allows Oikawa to see and hear what the victims say, but they donât see him. If they ever find their way back into his fatherâs clutches, they wonât know anything about who had rescued them.
âOne of them will need medical attention.â
Iwaizumiâs voice is strong and steady, and Oikawa hums along as he flips through a file. Even after all these years, Oikawa doesnât know how Iwaizumi manages to keep his composure during times like this. Every time he has to venture down to these rooms, Oikawa can feel his heart breaking, tearing him apart from the inside out. He knows that after heâs finished here tonight, he will return back upstairs to his apartment and drink until the pain is numbed away.
âWhat happened?â Oikawa flips another page.
âShe fought back.â
Iwaizumiâs voice wavers for the first time in years. Oikawa looks up and meets his eyes, eyebrows raising.
Iwaizumi gestures to the glass. âJust look.â
So, he does.
And immediately regrets doing so.
The other two, a boy and a girl who appear to be siblings, are curled up together in the corner, a blanket covering them.
But you.
You stand in front of them, arms crossed over your chest, obscuring the siblings from complete view. Youâre looking straight at him, like you can see through the glass. Your murderous gaze sends a shiver down Oikawaâs spine, but he forces himself to look back at you, to take stock of the injuries you have.
Thereâs blood running down your face from a deep cut on your forehead. Your knuckles are bruised and split open. Your clothes are torn, scrapes and bruises littering the skin that is exposed. Your left wrist is twisted unnaturally where it rests on your other arm.
But despite it all, youâre still standing there, protecting the siblings, and staring through the glass straight into Oikawaâs soul.
---
Your memory is hazy.
You remember leaving the bar after your closing shift and starting your walk home. You remember being grabbed by someone and told to stay quiet. You remember the shooting pain of a needle in your arm.
Then, your memory becomes unreliable.
You woke up in a transport container with the siblings behind you. You never managed to get their names. You remember that you couldnât stay awake for long periods of time, that sleep kept pulling you under. You remember someone busting open the containerâs lock and grabbing the three of you, pulling you out and promising safety. You remember fighting back and not trusting their words.
And now, youâre here.
You know that someone is watching you on the other side of the glass. You know that youâre injured. You know that the siblings are scared out of their minds.
But all you can do is stand your ground, and stare at the glass.
---
âShe wonât let anyone near them.â
Iwaizumiâs voice pulls Oikawa out of his stupor. Heâs too focused on you, on how youâre staring straight through him, at how youâre standing tall despite the obvious pain you must be feeling.
âNot even Emi?â
If anyone could break through your strong façade, it would be Emi. Sheâs kind and gentle, exactly the type of person for this job.
âShe told Emi that she wanted to speak to whoever was in charge and refused medical care or help for any of them until she speaks to that person.â
Oikawa runs a hand through his hair and sighs. If he has to do this, he will. If only to get you and the siblings the help and care that you all need.
---
When the door opens, your defensive demeanor returns. These people may have promised you safety, but there is nothing safe about this situation.
You expect the woman from earlier to walk in, but to your surprise, itâs a man around your age, in a ruffled suit and an unsettling smile on his face. Heâs young and objectively handsome; it leaves a bitter taste in your mouth. He approaches you slowly, and you anchor your feet to the ground, refusing to step backwards. You donât trust him; why should you?
âWho are you?â Mercifully, your voice doesnât shake.
The manâs smile softens as he stops a few feet away from you. âOikawa Tooru. Iâm the one who brought you here.â
âWhat do you want?â
âNothing, really.â He shrugs and eyes the arm that youâre clutching. âIâd like to get you all medical attention and find their parents,â he gestures to the siblings, âand then you can do whatever you would like.â
You eye him suspiciously. He seems sincere, but you never truly know in this world. âHow do I know youâre telling the truth?â
Oikawa looks towards the glass. âCould you ask Emi to come back in, please?â
---
The other reason Emi is so crucial to these situations is because of her experience. She herself was one of the very first that Oikawa rescued from his fatherâs clutches, but he will be forever indebted to her for all that she does for the other victims.
Mere seconds pass before Emi is walking in, sending you a quick glance before smiling at Oikawa. âWhat can I do for you, Tooru?â
âIf you donât mind, Iâd like them to know that Iâm serious about letting them free. Itâs normal to be suspicious, but Iâd like to prove to them that they are safe now.â
Emi just smiles and bows her head. âOf course, Tooru.â
Oikawa watches as Emi approaches you and begins speaking softly. After a few minutes, she reaches her hands forward and gently grasps your wrist, checking for range of motion. Oikawa breathes a sigh of relief. The hard work is done now that you trust at least Emi. He makes for the door, but your voice stops him.
âExcuse me?â Your voice is less hostile than it was earlier, and Oikawa pauses with his hand on the door handle.
âYes?â
âIâd like to stay with them if thatâs alright. Just to make sure.â
Oikawa nods and smiles. âOf course. Iâll come down tomorrow and check on the three of you.â
His heart squeezes when he hears a soft âthank youâ as heâs leaving.
---
Tokyo looks small from his balcony. It sprawls for miles around him, but up here, high above it, it seems miniscule and insignificant. Even the glow of the nightlife seems dim. He swirls the whiskey tumbler in his grip before taking a sip, listening to the rhythmic tinkling of the ice hitting the glass.
When the balcony doors open behind him, he pretends that he doesnât flinch.
âEmi got the three of them settled in for the night. Theyâre all eating, and Kiyokoâs on her way to check the injuries.â
Oikawa smiles softly, eyes still on the city below him. âThank you, Iwaizumi.â
âYour father wants to see you tomorrow.â
Oikawa stiffens. âNo.â
He hears Iwaizumi sigh and sees him rest his elbows on the railing out of the corner of his eye. âYou know you donât have a choice.â
Oikawa glances to the side. âYouâll come with me, right?â
Iwaizumi smiles one of his rare smiles and steals the whiskey tumbler from Oikawaâs hand. âOf course, I will.â
Oikawa allows some of the tension to leave his body. âThank you.â
Iwaizumi downs the rest of the whiskey and sets the glass next to Oikawaâs elbow. âYou also have four other meetings tomorrow with various clients.â
Resting his head on his forearms, Oikawa sighs. âOf course, I do.â
Iwaizumiâs voice is teasing when he replies. âHey, it pays to be the Great King of Tokyo.â

Suna Rintarou: your oldest childhood friend, your longest (unrequited) love, your college roommate. Sunaâs scandalous reputation is getting worse, and you vow to find another love interest before you get entangled in his sinful ways. The only problem? Sunaâs always been right here.

The music is pounding and the drink in your hand sloshes as you dance on Kenma. After your impromptu make-out session was interrupted by a group of freshmen setting up beer pong on the porch, the two of you decided to come inside. Your back is pressed against Kenmaâs front, his left hand grasping your hip and his right hand holding his drink. Someone comes around with a bottle of tequila; both of you chug whatâs left in your cups and Kenma reaches for the bottle.
Youâre caught up completely in him. Heâs gentle and sweet and caring, but with a darker side that you love. You donât want the night to end; youâre pretty sure youâd be content to dance and drink with him here for the rest of your life.
The bottle is passed to Kenma with no effort from either of you. Youâre still pressed against him, but his left hand drifts up to your throat as he tips the bottle towards your lips. If someone took a video of you two right now, youâre sure that it would look exactly the same as the one Kaiya had shown you earlier. The tequila burns as it runs down your throat, but the feeling of Kenmaâs hand around your neck makes it worth it.
He pulls the bottle away when he decides youâve had enough. Youâre entranced by the way he sips it straight without wincing, and youâre even more captivated when he tips your head back with the hand around your neck and presses his mouth to yours, the tequila falling from his lips and down your throat.
Youâre drunk on the alcohol, thatâs for sure, but you think you might be even more drunk on him.
The bottle is taken away, but youâre unsatisfied. Right now, all you want is for him to make good on his words from earlier in the evening, and you tell him that.
Tucked into his side, Kenma leads you from the party and down the sidewalk to your apartment.
---
You fumble for your keys when you reach the apartment door, Kenmaâs lips locked on your neck. Youâre unbuttoning his shirt while trying to unlock the door, heâs unzipping your dress. When you finally get the door open, you both tumble inside, slowly making your way down the hall and to your room.
Youâre stopped when a light flicks on in the kitchen, and you quickly turn to see Suna, arms crossed and expression blank. Kenma steps away from you to look at him as well, and the three of you stand there, silent, until Suna finally speaks.
âGet out.â
Your jaw drops at his audacity. Whatever high you were feeling is gone now, youâre completely sober. You feel like youâve been dunked in cold water. Sunaâs kicking Kenma out, and for what? Because you brought him home? Because you were planning on sleeping with him? Itâs not your fault Suna is here; if it were any other night, he wouldnât be home until dawn anyway.
âWhy?â
To your surprise, itâs Kenma who replies. Youâre caught in the middle between the two of them, and you can only watch as it quickly escalates.
âItâs my house. I said get out.â
âItâs actually her house too,â Kenma points to you, âand sheâs allowed to have people over.â
âNot tonight.â Sunaâs face is still carefully blank, but you can see the anger starting to appear in his eyes.
âSheâs an adult, last time I checked, and you arenât her caretaker. She can do what she wants.â
Suna steps forward, eyes blazing. âYou- â
Before it can get any worse, you place your hand on Kenmaâs arm. âItâs alright, Kenma. Iâm sorry.â
Your voice is quiet, and his expression immediately softens. âAre you sure?â
You nod and pull him in for a quick hug. âYes, thank you. Iâm sorry. Iâll see you tomorrow.â
He leaves with a small wave to you, a sad smile on his face. You turn on Suna, who still has his arms crossed.
âWhat the fuck is wrong with you?â Youâre furious at him, at the audacity of him. âI invited him over. I wanted him to be here. Iâm an adult! You canât make decisions for me.â
âOh, really? This is the second time in the past few days youâve gone out late to party, and now youâre going to bring a guy over? What the fuck is wrong with you, y/n? Itâs Monday night, for fuckâs sake. You have class in the morning, and youâre too busy getting drunk and high and fucking other guys to realize that. What the fuck has gotten into you, lately?â
Your anger is white-hot, causing tears to form in your eyes and your hands to shake. âIâm an adult, Suna! I can do whatever I want, and I can fuck whoever I want! You do it all the time!â
âJust because I do it doesnât mean that you should! Youâre better than this! Youâre going around acting like a-a- â
You know what heâs going to say, and you think part of you needs to hear him say it. If he says it, you know the damage will be irreversible. âA what, Suna?â
âA whore!â
Thatâs it. Your anger is extinguished, your hands stop shaking, but the tears continue to fall. You turn and walk silently to your room, leaving Suna standing in the kitchen. You close your bedroom door, locking it behind you, and slide down it to the floor. Everything is silent for a moment until Suna realizes what he has done.
You crawl into bed with tears still streaming down your face and fall asleep to Suna endlessly calling your name and banging on your door to apologize.
---
When you wake up to your alarm the next morning, the apartment is silent. You brave going into the kitchen, only to find a bouquet of flowers and take-out breakfast from your favorite diner down the street. Mercifully, Suna is nowhere to be found, but you send him a quick thank you text anyway. Youâre still pissed, rightfully so, but youâre appreciative that he is at least trying to get back in your good graces.
---
The rest of the week passes by painfully slow. You spend the majority of your time with Kaiya, Kenma, and Kuroo, eating lunch with them in the quad and meeting up in the library to study. Suna is noticeably absent not only from the apartment, but from campus. Itâs only on Friday that you find out where heâs been.
Your phone rings while youâre preparing dinner for yourself. Youâre planning on going to another party tonight; this time Kenma invited you. You pick up the phone, spotting your momâs number.
âHey, mom.â
âHi, baby. How are you?â Her gentle voice comforts you immensely. Youâve felt off with Suna gone; the apartment feels lonely without him, even if you two arenât really talking.
âIâm alright, how are you?â
âIâm good. Why didnât you come home with Rintarou?â
âHeâs home?â Your surprise is painfully obvious, and you wince. You donât want your parents to think that the two of you arenât getting along.
âYeah, heâs been home since Tuesday morning. Heâs coming over for dinner tonight, and I think heâs leaving Sunday.â
âOh.â You donât know what to say. âIâm sorry I couldnât go home, mom, schoolâs been busy.â
âItâs alright, sweetheart. Weâll see you for winter break.â
âOf course, mom. Love you.â
âLove you too, baby. Bye.â
You hang up with an unsettled weight in your stomach. Why would Suna go home? You figured he was crashing at a friendâs place. Itâs unlike him to go home without telling you, especially because he knows how homesick you can get. The stir-fry you had been cooking looks unappetizing now. You put it in the fridge for tomorrow and grab a protein bar instead.
Your mind is plagued by Suna while you get ready for the party. Why did he leave? You argued, yes, but he didnât even tell you he was going back home. You havenât heard from him at all; your text from Tuesday morning was left on read. Maybe he was afraid of your reaction, maybe he didnât know what to do.
You sigh as you slip into your shoes and lock up the empty apartment before heading to the party.
---
Suna Rintarou is completely fucking stupid. He knows he is, you know he is, everyone knows it. He is dumb and cannot act on his feelings in the way he wants to, and now heâs made you upset and made himself angry. When he boards the train back to Hyogo, he isnât sure why heâs going back. He doesnât know what heâs looking for; only that he needs to get his head on straight. He canât keep making you mad. If only you loved him like he loves you; he wouldnât have to do stupid things like party every night and sleep with other girls to distract himself.
When he vents to his parents, they tell him to stop being stupid and just confess. How can he do such a thing when heâll just be set up for rejection? Instead of going back to Tokyo and heeding his parentsâ advice, he stays for a few more days and plans a dinner with your parents on Friday.
Your mom opens the door, delight evident on her face. âOh, Rintarou, itâs been too long.â She pulls him in for a tight hug, and he hugs her back just as tight. âDinnerâs almost ready, why donât you go grab a seat at the table?â
Suna follows her instructions as she disappears back into the kitchen. Your dad is at the table, messing with his laptop, but he smiles brightly when Suna walks in. âHey, son, howâve you been?â
Suna smiles at the easy way your parents greet him. âIâve been good.â
âTaking care of my girl?â
Suna chuckles at that. âTrying my best, sir.â
âGood. Sheâs a handful. It wouldnât surprise if sheâs the one taking care of you, and not the other way around.â
Suna laughs at your dadâs prediction. Heâs right, Suna knows that for sure, and from the glint in your dadâs eyes, he knows it as well.
Your mom returns from the kitchen and dinner is served. âWhat brings you back home, Rintarou? And without our daughter?â
âI was just feeling homesick, and sheâs busy with school so she couldnât come.â
âAh, ah,â your mom lifts her fork and points it at Suna, âyouâre lying.â His cheeks flush red. âWhen I called her a little bit ago, she had no idea that you were back home, which means,â she flicks her fork again, âyou two are arguing. â
Suna scratches the back of his head as his blush deepens. âWeâre not really arguing, more of- â
âArguments with y/n donât last this long,â your dad speaks up, âbecause she always wins them.â
âWell, youâre right about that.â
Your mom speaks again, âSo whatâs going on, Rintarou?â
He sighs. This is why he came home; he knows that. Heâs not here to see his parents, or Kita, or anyone else. Heâs here for your parents.
âThis is going to sound very forward and sudden, but I would appreciate if you could hear me out. I understand if you disapprove, and I will stop immediately if thatâs the case.â Suna takes a deep breath, his cheeks flushed. âI love y/n.â
Itâs completely silent, but your parents donât seem to be shocked. His eyes bounce back and forth between the two of them, waiting for someone to yell, to be angry, to speak.
Instead, both your mom and your dad bust out laughing. Suna is bewildered by this turn of events, of everything he expected, every scenario he ran through in his head, this was not one of them.
Your mom is finally able to quiet her laughter. âWe know, Rintarou. Youâve been in love with our daughter since elementary school.â
His eyes widen. âIâve what- â
âSheâs right.â Your fatherâs eyes are fond, as they always are when he talks about you. âWeâve all been making bets on how long it would take for the two of you to get together. We were hoping that once you moved in together, it would work out, but obviously not.â
âWhoâs we?â Suna is not sure if heâs focusing on the important part of what was just revealed to him, but heâs still too confused to care.
âYour parents, my husband and I, the twinsâ parents, Kita and his grandma.â
Suna feels like he should be angrier that Kita was involved in these adult schemes, but he isnât. âWow.â
âSo, whatâs the problem then, Rintarou? You love her, why donât you tell her that?â Your momâs questioning gaze burns his heart, and he has to look away.
âI screwed up, really badly. Itâs a long story, but I said some things I didnât mean, and I really hurt her feelings. On top of that, I canât bring myself to tell her because she doesnât feel the same and I donât want to ruin our friendship.â
âHave you asked her?â
âNo, but- â
âAsk her, Rintarou. Youâd be surprised.â
The flicker of hope in his chest is enough for Suna. âI still need to make up for what I said to her the other day.â
He spends the rest of his evening with your parents, coming up with ideas for how to confess and apologize and how to show how much he really loves you.
---
The party is pretty much the same as the one on Monday. You spend it with Kenma, determined to make up for Sunaâs behavior. Once again, after the two of you smoke a bowl and take shots, you drag Kenma from the party and towards your apartment.
âShouldnât we go to my place instead?â His voice is muffled from where his mouth is pressed against your neck, and you have to stifle a moan to respond.
âNah, Sunaâs not here.â Kenma lifts his head to look at you, lust clouding his golden eyes. âWeâll have the place all to ourselves.â Your grin is catlike, and youâre thrilled. Even with the marijuana and the alcohol clouding your mind, youâre excited. No Suna to interrupt you or judge you, just you and Kenma and the rest of the night.
Kenma presses you up against the apartment door after youâve unlocked it. You can feel how badly he wants you. Your mind goes blissfully blank as he kisses down your body, and you drag him to your bedroom without a second thought.

After a drunken one-night stand with your ex, you thought you could get him out of your life for good. Unfortunately, the two of you canât seem to keep away from each other. Why canât you leave each other alone? And more importantly, why is he still on your mind?

âDo you wanna come inside?â
Your voice may have been slightly pleading, but you didnât care. You wanted to have this conversation with Suna, wanted to tell him how you felt, wanted to wake up next to him tomorrow morning and all the mornings after.Â
âAre you sure?â Suna seemed hesitant, and you knew why. He knew that by inviting him in, you were inviting him to a conversation about your relationship.
You nodded your head and unlocked the door to your apartment. You poured two glasses of wine and then found yourself in a familiar position; you sitting at one end of the couch, Suna on the other.
âYou probably know why I asked you to come in,â you said, sliding one of the glasses down the coffee table towards Suna. He nodded, and you continued. âI really wanted to wait until after the Olympics, so I wouldnât be distracting you, but I just canât wait any longer.â You looked him in the eye before continuing. âI love you, Rintarou, and I canât wait any longer to tell you. I want to be with you, I want to go with you back to EJP, if youâll have-â
Your words were cut off by a very enthusiastic Suna who had dove across the couch to capture your lips with his. You kissed him back passionately, until he pulled away to whisper to you.Â
âOf course I want you to come to EJP with me. I want it to be you.â You giggled somewhat childishly, allowing yourself to be caught up in the sheer happiness of the moment. You could feel Sunaâs smile against your lips, his hands roaming across your body.Â
âDo you wanna stay the night?â
Suna nodded enthusiastically, pulling you up from the couch. You led the way to the bedroom, tugging Sunaâs hand and leaving the half-empty wine glasses on the table.Â
As soon as you crossed the threshold of your bedroom, Suna was pushing you up against the wall, hands holding your face with such reverence that you thought you might cry. You could feel his lips ghosting across your jaw, neck, and collarbone as you carefully tugged off his shirt. You put your hands against his chest, reveling in the smooth, hard muscle there. As you started working on the button of Sunaâs jeans, he still hadnât made a move to undress you.
âRin, please,â you whispered, voice feather-light and absolutely pleading.
You could feel the sinister grin that spread across Sunaâs face against your neck, and you knew you were in trouble. âAlready begging for me, babe?â
You scoffed and pushed him back until his thighs hit your bed, watching as he fell backwards into the mattress. âFine, Iâll do it myself.â You took your clothes off rather unceremoniously, Suna smirking at your own impatience. Standing in front of him in just your bra and underwear, you slid his jeans off. He continued smirking until you straddled his waist, only two layers of cloth separating you two. His hands found your hips as you leaned down to kiss him. Sunaâs lips were soft, perfectly distracting you as his hands drifted.Â
You allowed yourself to be caught up in the heat of the moment, your mind completely drifting as Suna took control. Whispered words in the dark made your heart beat faster, soft confessions of love and Sunaâs deep voice praising you. You savored the feeling of him, strong arms wrapping around you, a hand grabbing both of your wrists, back muscles rippling underneath your fingertips.Â
When you fell asleep later that night, you were tucked into Sunaâs chest, his arms wrapped around your body.
---
The sunlight streaming in through the windows woke you the next morning. You found yourself stifling a laugh at the familiarity of waking up with Suna, only this time, it was under much better circumstances. You didnât make a move to disentangle yourself from his arms, instead sinking farther in and allowing yourself to close your eyes and listen to his heartbeat.Â
He stirred, leaving a gentle kiss on your forehead as he rolled to face you completely. A hand came up to rest on the side of your face. Sunaâs eyes were soft, a sleepy smile on his lips.Â
âIâm not dreaming, right?â
You giggled a little at his question.âNo, this is real.â
âGood.â
âWhy do you ask?â
He gave you a long blink before answering. ââCause itâs everything Iâve been dreaming of for the past eight years.â
You swatted at his arm, laughing. âYou are so soft for someone who has chronic resting bitch face and never answers personal questions in interviews.â
âYou watch my interviews?â
Blushing, you nodded. âEvery single one. And every highlight reel. Every game. Anything to do with you.â
âWhoâs the soft one now?â
His knowing grin made you groan, lifting yourself off the bed. Suna clung to your arm like a sloth. âWhere do you think youâre going?â
You rolled your eyes. âBreakfast, Iâm hungry.â
He released you and flopped back into the bed, burrowing into your blankets. You smiled at his antics, then got up to make coffee and something to eat.Â
---
The weekend passed in much of the same fashion, you and Suna staying in bed much longer than you should, watching replays of EJP games (Suna needed your opinion, apparently) and talking.Â
On Sunday afternoon, you pulled out your laptop to email a resume to EJPâs coach, but Suna stopped you.
âI already called coach, the jobâs yours if you want it.â
You snapped your head up to look at him, laptop sliding off your lap. âHuh?â
âYou got the job, itâs yours.â
âWhat do you mean? I havenât even applied or sent a resume.â
Suna just looked at you. âYou donât need to, youâre hired already. I called coach and gave him your credentials, and he wants you to be our trainer.â
You gave Suna an incredulous look. âWhen did you do that?â
He smiled, âTwo weeks ago.â
Your jaw dropped. âYou were that confident that I would get back together with you?â
âI call it hopeful. And yes.â You rolled your eyes before pulling him in for a kiss.
âThank you, Rin. And let me guess, I already have somewhere to live?â
âOf course, with me.â You grinned. âMy apartmentâs pretty big, more of a penthouse, anyway. We can move back together after the Games.â
Your smile became even wider. You liked the idea of âtogetherâ.
---
When you and Suna walked hand-in-hand into Mondayâs morning practice, Atsumu laughed.Â
âI fucking knew it. You two canât keep away from each other.â
Suna punched Atsumu in the shoulder before dropping you off at your office with a kiss on the cheek.Â
Practice was much better now that you and Suna were actually together. With two weeks until the move into the Olympic Village, training was picking up. The hardest would be over at the end of the week, with the week before the move-in full of easier drills and low-impact exercises. You enjoyed being able to watch Suna without restraint, taking in every move, every muscle.Â
You spent your evenings with Suna, taking extra care of sore muscles and aching joints. He laughed at your fussing, but you didnât stop. You wanted him to play at top form in the upcoming Games, and you were going to do everything you could to make sure he got there.Â
Atsumu was petty about you âplaying favoritesâ, as he put it, but his jealousy was quickly dismissed when you threw an ice pack at him.Â
On the last practice before you left the National Team training center, the atmosphere was electric. Training was minimal, focusing on stretching and keeping muscles warm rather than drills and practice matches. You even watched tapes from the most recent world championship, taking notes on opposing teams and players.Â
When practice was finally over, you helped Iwaizumi pack all of the training gear.
âThank you for doing such a good job this season, y/n. I know the team will be in good hands with you.â
You smiled bright at his praise. âThank you. I hope you enjoy Argentina, although I and everyone else will miss you.â
Iwaizumi shrugged. âItâs about time I left anyway. My fianceâs been waiting for me for quite some time.â
You laughed a little bit. âThatâs quite romantic.â
âJust wait âtil you meet him. Heâs the opposite of romantic. In fact, heâs quite annoying.â
âIâm going to meet him?â
âYeah, he plays for the Argentina volleyball team. Heâs gonna be all âIwa-chan, how dare you be on Japanâs side. How dare you be their trainer. I canât believe you.â Just wait, itâs obnoxious. Youâll wish you didnât meet him.â
Stifling your laughter, you replied, âIâm sure thatâs not true.â
Without missing a beat, Iwaizumi said, âIt is, trust me.â He looked over his shoulder at you. âAnyway, I should be the one congratulating you. It seems you and Suna finally figured everything out.â
Your cheeks flared red. âHowâd you know about that?â
Iwaizumi chuckled. âAtsumu, of course. The whole teamâs been making bets on how long it would take for you two to get back together, for Suna to realize who took his jersey, pretty much everything.â
You paused, one of your hands still in a box of athletic tape. âHe told you everything?â
Iwaizumi nodded, watching as you stomped towards the locker rooms. âExcuse me.â
Iwaizumi proceeded with his packing, only pausing slightly when he heard a very loud, very agitated, âMiya Atsumu!â
---
You dropped the heavy box you were carrying, wiping the sweat from your forehead. Suna dropped his box next to yours, then flopped on your bed.Â
âGet off, Rin. This isnât your room. And we have more boxes.â
He groaned, looking up at you. âCâmon, y/n. Itâs hot, and I need to rest. Big games coming up, yâknow?â
You grabbed his hands, dragging him off the small bed. âA few more boxes, Rin, I promise.â
Later that night, after unpacking the boxes of training supplies and going over schedules with the coach and Iwaizumi, you were finally settled in your tiny room in the Olympic Village. You were rooming alone, with team supplies taking up half of the space. Just as you were about to drift to sleep, your door opened, a tiny sliver of light from the hallway slipping in.
You didnât even roll over. âRin, there is not enough room for you in here. This bed is tiny as fuck.â
âCâmon, y/n. I canât sleep when Iâm not next to you.â
You tried to ignore the pleading tone in his voice, but you could picture the puppy dog eyes he was probably giving you. âFine,â you sighed, lifting the blankets for him to join you.
âThank you, babe.â
You hummed, relishing in the warmth of Sunaâs chest, just about to fall asleep when-
âHey, do you think itâs true that these beds break if you have sex on them?â
