Yesterday I fulfilled my post-lockdown ambition of resuming my walk along the Fife Pilgrim Way, edging closer to St Andrews by walking the 13 miles between Markinch and Ceres :)
It was a day of contrasts, starting out with delightful pancake-flat field-edge agricultural walking to Kennoway, and then abruptly veering away from suburban Fife and climbing up towards the highest point on the trail at Clatto....before a wonderfully airy and gentle descent took me down to the reclusive wee gem of Ceres.
As has been the case for much of summer, it was perfect weather. Warm rather than hot, bright rather than baking, a nice cooling breeze on the higher stretches of the trail, and the cloudy skies giving texture and variety to the landscapes. Add to that the fact I think I probably saw more butterflies and damselflies yesterday than I've seen all year and it was a genuine joy to be out on the trail :)
Plus.....I had an undeniable spring in my step for the descent from Clatto after a group of walkers told me the Ceres Inn was open for business. A pint in the beer garden was not only my first visit to anything other than a supermarket since March, it was also my first pub pint in the sunshine since last summer in Braemar :-o
Anyway, just click through the piccies for route commentary :)
PS - The Fife Pilgrim Way is a 64 mile long distance trail to St Andrews, with two starting points, both in Fife. One at Culross and one at North Queensferry: https://fifecoastandcountrysidetrust.co.uk/…/fife-pilgrim-…/
