“I love solitude.
If I had to make a choice forever, I’d choose being alone.
It’s not that I want to be on my own.
The problem is freedom.”
— Ken Bugul, in Ken Bugul, Personne n’en veut.

5.20.19 // afternoon
Dressed up to spend the day in the library grading final papers. I'm allowing myself the luxury of reading for pleasure once the library closes--and reading in the warmth of the sun, at that.
Today I got an email from my DGS that the department needs a grader for a course, and that it can combine with my grading position in another department, which has already been established. More jobs = less money stress.
I feel more sure of myself today. Last night's insecurities have faded, for now.

Ecocriticism
I'm writing a my Honours thesis this year, staring out at the park, surrounded by my beloved collection of plants and flowers....and, you guessed it, it's an ecocritical reading of Ken Bugul's The Abandoned Baobab.
Ecocriticism is a field of literary study that looks at the relationship between humans and their environment. Especially in our time of ecological crisis, I think it's an incredibly important topic: whether we look at it in books, TV, science, or our everyday life. Additionally, I'm interested in how it intersects with post colonialism, feminism, societal oppression and embodied knowledge.
Mind Body World is a blog where I'll be compiling quotes, thoughts, links and images along my journey. Join me in the adventure!
There are seas of emotions, multiple feelings and resentments that noone can express, much less describe. I believe that nothing of what goes on inside of us is ever entirely expressed. For it is beyond us.
