1968 Kellogg's Monkees Advertisement
"Win a guest role on The Monkees TV Show"
Tom Corbett Space Cadet Rocket Rings - Kellogg's (1951)
Here we have the original "hangry" influencer. Before we had 240-character rants on social media, we had full-page spreads in Life featuring Casey himself suffering from a tragic lack of fiber. There is something truly poetic about a man who would likely strike out with the bases loaded but finds the ultimate defeat at the bottom of a cardboard box. Also, can we discuss the sheer commitment to the "retro-sporty" look? The wool jersey and that mustache are doing some heavy lifting here, probably more lifting than Casey did during the actual game. It’s a classic example of Mid-Century advertising: why sell a product when you can sell a whimsical existential crisis based on 19th-century literature?
