Stating an opinion is one thing.  Making snap judgements and harsh statements about individuals when no one knows the full story is another thing.  It's unacceptable.  It's how rumors start.

Surrounding the Sandy Hook Elementary shootings: it was initially thought that the shooter's mother was a teacher at Sandy Hook and was killed at the school.  However, now we know that she was murdered in her bed and the school has no records of her ever being employed there.  Rumors spread like wildfire, and people should not open their mouths without knowing the full story.  

As if the gun control controversy isn't enough drama on my newsfeed to make me want to go insane, my hometown is now the heart of an investigation of a dead fetus found in a dumpster behind the mall.  The mother who did this to her child is rumored to be a girl I went to high school with, someone I've known for years. 

While the actions of this mother can, in no way, be justified, the amount of hatred I see on facebook is disgusting.  I can understand and identify with these feelings, but I don't need to see them on the internet.  Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but posting it on the internet is, in my opinion, ignorant.

When you post your extremely close-minded, strong viewpoint for all of your internet "friends" to see, you're putting yourself out there as a target.  People will always have different views on every story, and, as human beings, none of us like to think we may be wrong.  Fights are started, names are called, and it's just outrageous how fast these things escalate. An opinion is an opinion, and the struggle some people have when they see someone with a differing viewpoint is unnecessary.
