No New MPD: Rally to Defeat Bill to Hire More Police
On Tuesday, February 7, 2017 the DC Council will vote on the “Force of 4,200 - Police Officer Recruitment and Retention Emergency Act of 2017”. We say #NoNewMPD! Because this is emergency legislation, there will be no public hearing. As D.C. residents we MUST speak out. We've got to collectively #Resist acting out of fear in response to intracommunity violence. We must be courageous enough as a District to do something different because what we've been doing, including believing we can police our way out of this, isn't working. The Council spent months, hours, weeks, meeting, talking to the community, doing the research on other cities' successful programs, visiting other cities, and then created and unanimously passed the NEAR Act. Join BLM DC and Stop Police Terror Project DC to demand the council vote NO on the 7th and to ensure the NEAR Act is fully funded in the next budget. #SafetyBeyondPolicing
