not at all definitive and honestly i kept flip flopping putting this together, but these are at least a good chunk of the films i watched this year that stuck with me the most!! quite a few of these have become favorites of mine and a lot of them are essential viewing that took me too long to get to

hi!! honestly i am not the best person to ask for book recs because i read wayyy too little (my preferred artform is da movies) but i can tell you three books that have been on my mind lately and

exquisite corpse by poppy z. brite - multi-pov novel set in 1990s new orleans about two gay necrophiliac serial killers and the boy who they want to make their victim. this book is insane start to finish and has some of the most repulsive sentences one can string together in the english language and it instantly became one of my favorite novels. definitely not a light read as it details everything from racism to cannibalism to sex with teenaged corpses but i definitely recommend it if you're a horror fan.

paul takes the form of a mortal girl by andrea lawlor - another novel set in the 1990s but this time across multiple cities. the book follows a bisexual shapeshifter named paul and his sexual escapades with various people as he lives out his life as various genders. i usually hate nonbinary shapeshifter as a trope but this book's approach to it was so layered and resonated with me so deeply. it's deeply entrenched in 90s queer culture and it reads so authentic and i just love it.
