the outfit, the posture, the confidence, the voice
since the theories are hitting the streets here’s my take: eve is not mad at villanelle. she’s emotionally shut off and purposely being cold because she can’t allow villanelle in. if that happened she’d lose her grip on everything she’s been working towards (taking down the twelve) and be completely distracted. being stern towards her is the only way she thinks can successfully make villanelle stay away (and is what eve will learn in episode 6, to much heartache i suspect). i’d also add that to a degree she’s also subconsciously doing this to protect villanelle and doesn’t want her involved for her own safety.
on the other end, villanelle thinks the only way she can get eve to notice her is by fundamentally changing to her very core. she thinks eve doesn’t believe she can be ‘good’ and wants to set out to prove otherwise, when in actual fact eve never desired such change. this is also combined with the knowledge that she knows she’s increasingly losing her grip over eve (which again, is misjudged. it’s not that eve does not like villanelle anymore or isn’t still infatuated with her. it’s that she’s shutting her out to focus on a bigger task at hand)
eve is being cold for a reason and over the course of the season we’ll begin to see how this deeply affects her.
