Like the hot dogs at a gas station, in the middle of Kansas, our journey keeps on rolling. And to you, my dear readers, I have an inciting tale to share. On this clogged artery like journey we’re on, I rarely diverge from my hot dog destinations. But when controversy riddles a small town, and the source of the public’s heart ache is hotdogs (in more ways than one), I’m drawn to it like the smell of a flat top grill filled with steamed dogs after your second beer. It’s like Assange says, “If journalism is good its controversial, by its nature.”

So, to all of my 10’s of followers out there; If you’re experiencing concerns for Gina and I’s safety and overall well being, your heart is in the right place. Less than a month ago on a brisk April night, fans at Kansas City’s Kauffman stadium got their first, highly anticipated, “Buck Night.” This glorious night occurs every Friday that the royals play at home. And although more than 63,000 hot dogs were sold that night, not all of them were up to the standards of the loyal attendees. Since Royal fans are known for their bbq and tailgating and not for their stadium food, one fan told me “The fan’s lack of interest led to complacency with the stadium vendors.”  And that’s when the terror struck. That complacency that the true blue fan was talking about? Well it led to over cooked hot dogs, burnt, shriveled up and even moldy buns. And in this age of social media and constant documentation, those photos are something you don’t want to see on the local news and internet. Naturally hearing about this debacle enticed me to write my first "Quantity over Quality” article. With out further ado:

We are headed to “The K” in the car, along with the rest of the Midwest. Creeping along the one entrance to the stadium. The one thing Kauffman stadium has going against it, is that its in the middle of nowhere, for just about everyone. But there is plenty of parking for everyone once you’ve arrived, as all of the roads lead to this stadium. Kauffman may be the fourth oldest stadium in the league but it doesn’t look it. Greeted by a live band after hiking through rows and rows of legitimate tailgating, the energy is high before our tickets are even scanned. We’re accompanied by our friend John, who I’m almost positive was born In a royal’s hat. I can not emphasize enough how great it was to have a host who has that much love for the game. It was a three hour personal tour, guided by the most articulated fan I’ll ever meet. I’m trying to figure out how to give him 5 stars on yelp, but they won’t return my calls. So until then, this will have to do. I loved hearing about the famous pine tar bat incident, told in a beautiful 1st person nostalgia. Or an item by item tour, in the best hall of fame we’ve seen yet (much more charming and humble than my previous rants about the Yankee’s hall, but there’s a lot of things money just can’t buy, George.) And I finally saw the famous “Hot Dog Derby,” a race held on the weekends of Kauffman’s, where people dressed in oversized hot dog costumes representing our favorite condiments, ketchup, mustard, and relish race on foot around the stadiums warning track, to finish at home plate. And the people inside these super hero suits are really going for it. It was a close race but to Gina’s disgust, Mustard held on to its title. These Hot Dogs have reached near celebrity status locally. They have been seen in television commercials, fan videos, and their own very own bobbleheads in 2013! But the real moment of truth was yet to come.
