Dramaturg
So, I was given a really amazing opportunity to step outside my comfort zone in theater this semester and work as a dramaturg. I completed a dramaturgy presentation for my former advisor, Jason Chimonides', show The Optimist. I've always been strictly a performer, occasionally I dabble in tech because well it's good knowledge to have, but doing this has opened so much more for me. After successfully completing The Optimist I was asked to act as documentarian for IUP's operas Signor Deluso and Trouble in Tahiti and from that I was asked to document A Christmas Carol's journey through rehearsal. However, I think the most exciting aspect of this is taking my dramaturgy project to the Kennedy Center's American College Theater Festival Region II in January and while that makes me nervous I certainly hope that I can be a good representation of where I've been, who I've studied with, the people who engage me, the place I am, those Ii'm studying with, and the university I currently call home.
"Life as an Oreo"--This is a staged reading of the play I wrote. I found out that it's a a National Semi-Finalist to attend the Kennedy Center in April.
The play addresses race issues within the African American community also tries to answer the question on identity in the African American community. The play is 25 minutes long, btw.
I miss the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival. :(
