A little unwillingly, Lola went on a date with a friend of her eldest brother's. They weren't going to be a match, at least that's what she told herself when her brother spoke of his old friend. He owned a vineyard, and Lola didn't drink. She was twenty-eight, and he was forty-one. He had two children and was divorced, but she was married to her career. For now, at least. Marriage and children weren't off the table, though Lola needed some time to finish her PsyD program then establish herself in her field before she was ready to be someone's wife and have babies. Still, her brother insisted and she agreed to get him off her back.
What they'd been talking about the entire dinner she couldn't even recall as another fit of giggles shook her lithe frame. Her mouth hurt from smiling so much, and she'd been laughing for a solid fifteen minutes. The food was delicious. Pasta Moon was one of her favorite spots in town, but neither of them had barely touched their food. They couldn't shut up long enough to finish more than a few bites. It made Lola's heart race. She hadn't felt so smitten in a very, very long time.
"So I'm working on my PsyD, which is just a doctorate in Psychology. Specifically, I'm studying the effects of psychedelics on trauma, and how it can be integrated into other therapies to promote deeper healing. I was studying sex at first. Social and societal facets, but after a trip to Peru..." During which, Lola had participated in an ayahuasca ceremony. "..I knew my interests were elsewhere."
