The Word "Practice"
John, a disciple of Christ, didn't say a child of God never sins. He made that a point in 1 John 1:8: "If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves." John's point is that our lifestyle is what counts. Are you practicing sin—not an occasional mishap but as the habit of your life? Family, if you are, you need to stop and examine your life. No one born of God practices sin, according to God's Word. John shows us 2 easy ways to recognize believers: 1. Do they practice righteousness? 2. Do they love their brother and sister? Fellowship with other believers depends on you loving them. Love and time are closely related. Loving someone is difficult if you never spend any time with them. To love is to meet needs. Jesus gave us the perfect example of this when He laid down His life for us (1 John 3:16). It takes time to learn enough about someone to know their hurts, their pains, their joys. Loving your neighbor starts with taking the time to get to know your neighbor. In our fast-paced society, time is our most important commodity. I challenge you to plan to spend some of your most precious resource getting to know someone who needs to be loved! God, I pray that you guide me along the path to bring love to a person who's in need of your love! I pray that you guide the building of this relationship and help me to learn enough about this person to be able to pray specifically for him or her. Amen.
Whether we face flaming furnaces, lions' dens, captivity, or swords, we are to remain faithful to our God--even at the treat of losing our lives.
