We actually stumbled across the Kayak Shack by accident. We initially had plans to visit Weeki Wachee State Park for the Mermaid show and a dip in Buccaneer Bay but they were closed! 

Sometimes we don’t make plans.

After a quick Google search we located a few other places that would allow us to access the water ways. We ended up about 10 minutes away in Spring Hill at the Kayak Shack. The place its self isn’t much more than a renovated house but they launch you right in to the Weeki Wachee River (for an extremely fair price). We made our way in the direction the staff pointed us and found it very easy to navigate through the water to the swimming holes. There are multiple rope swings and places to stop through out the river. There is even an ICE CREAM BOAT. It’s just like an ice cream truck but it’s a boat. So it is infinitely better. The guy drops anchor daily on one of the main bends. If you find your self in this area of Florida, do your self a favor and check out the Weeki Wachee River.

$$$: We didn’t hit any tolls on U.S. 19 but if you’re coming from another route definitely look into it. The tandem kayak we rented was $35.00 FOR THE DAY. Depending on the season you may need to make a reservation with them. We split a Publix sub on the ride for $8.00. This adventure totaled about $50.00.
