thinking about a whumpee being made to lead their captors back to their team. whumpee's lying, of course; why the hell would they lead the enemy straight to their friends when they have an opportunity to throw them off the trail?
so they lead the enemy away. arms bound, maybe even on a chain or rope so they can't try to run for it, followed like a bloodhound. every step they take brings the enemy further from their friends, but it also brings them further from their friends. viscerally aware that the chances of rescue go down the further they go, and having no plans for what happens when the enemy catches on. just hoping they can find a moment to escape before then.
something I find I keep coming back to is like. a character trying to beg and bargain and slowly realizing that they have nothing. to bargain with. grasping for anything they can give in exchange for avoiding some fate that's just too much. "I'll do anything you want," "I'll be good," "anything but that," etc, none of those work because like. 'anything' is already on the table. I could do this to you, and you'd still do anything I want, because there are plenty of things I could do that you'd do anything to avoid.
the moment they realize this, and really comprehend that they don't even have the power to offer obedience. what they want fundamentally cannot mean anything. especially if it's a character that's used to having control, or used to striking deals, it's just SO fun.
the whumper just watching them flounder for any kind of leverage, watching it dawn on them that they're not an actor in this exchange, they're an object.
living weapon blorbo has taken over my life so here's some thoughts
living weapon that sucks at its job
living weapon with shit pain tolerance because its used to winning by a landslide every time. living weapon that can do the murdering part easy enough but can't handle taking a hit
living weapon that's a little too bloodthirsty and hard to control
living weapon that isn't a stoic robotic killer. they tried to make it one but it didn't work. it bites its handler and wakes up screaming from nightmares every night. it's afraid of blades
living weapon that's a failure. they tried to make a super soldier and they failed and now they have to find some use for this volatile, traumatized person that they couldn't beat the person out of
living weapon that knows its a failure and wants so badly to fulfill its purpose, to have a purpose. living weapon trying so hard to prove it can kill and fight and follow orders, trying so hard to hide the nightmares and the flinches
I really need people in the whump community to get used to saying the word rape. I'm so sick of "noncon" and characters "getting nonconned". it's called rape. this is the torture fandom. are you gonna say your character was nearly unalived? that they were contemplating sewer slide? just say rape

characters that get sick and hide it, the way wild animals hide all signs of weakness to avoid becoming a target. they take efforts to look normal and healthy until something finally snaps, a fever spikes, the sleepless nights of coughing and feeling like death catch up to them.
characters that get sick and make a huge fuss about it, wallowing in heaps of blankets and being pathetic while their friends humour this behavior and dote on them.
characters that go from the first to the second. they used to have to hide any sign of weakness to survive, but now they're in a safer environment and they realized that their new friends would shower them in attention and comfort if they were sick. now they make up for lost time, and their friends, aware of how they used to be, are all happy to indulge them.
okay lemme see if I can describe this in a way that's coherent because it lives in the back of my brain and will never go away. when whumpee is begging caretaker when they really don't have to, but you can really see why they think they do. when it's a conscious decision that whumpee is making, they have reason to believe this person, who they know, would do that.
and it's reasonable enough that caretaker understands almost immediately why they think that. and they get hit so hard with The Guilt.
it's about like, high stress situations tugging out the little interpersonal insecurities that they've been burying. they've always been worried that their friend will get sick of them and leave them behind, or they've always been uneasy that their spiteful friend has genuine, maybe even completely deserved resentments against them.
like. caretaker realizing like. my friend is scared of me. and they have reason to be. and perhaps more importantly, even thinking I would do something like that, they're still friends with me?? they're not angry???? they think they'd deserve it?????
say what you will about magical healing, you gotta admit it's really good for letting you get away with giving a character wounds that they should absolutely not be able to survive. you have to work waayyyyyy harder to let a character survive seeing their insides in a world without magical healing
