I'm still in my head about that Matthew/Kavinsky ask a lovely anon sent me, so I am thinking about a fic that really dives into their special brand of toxicity.
What if, when Kavinsky kidnapped Matthew, he had no intention of returning him? Instead of using him as leverage to seduce Ronan, Kavinsky just figured fuck it. If you can't have the original, make a copy. Or, in Matthew's case, kidnap a ready-made copy!
Imagine if you would; a fic from Matthew's POV, beginning with the moment he obliviously gets into Kavinsky's car, right before the 4th of July. He's kinda confused at first because is he being kidnapped? Usually kidnappers don't let the hostage ride shotgun. He doesn't feel like he's been kidnapped. But as the hours become days, become weeks, Matthew comes to realize he's not a willing participant in this road trip. He wants to call Ronan, he wants to wear a change of his own clothes, he wants his ipod, but Kavinsky keeps driving. You can call your brothers soon, he promises, they just have to get there first. Matthew has no idea where there is.
They stop at fancy hotels sometimes and Kavinsky always gets one room with one bed. Matthew is too polite to kick up a fuss so he never complains. Kavinsky doesn't sleep much anyway. He dreams, the way Ronan dreams, but more violent, always falling fast and waking hard.
Matthew is a likable person, but what he didn't know what that Kavinsky is actually likable too. He's kinda like Ronan but more. Louder, funnier, prettier...
He tells Matthew stories about his time with Ronan; they took drugs together, they dreamed in the same space, they shared cigarettes and kisses. He tells Matthew how much like his brother he is, how Ronan was nervous the first time he swallowed one of Kavinsky’s pills, as he places a red pill on Matthew's tongue, and Ronan was bad at kissing too, until Kavinsky taught him, the same way he can teach Matthew.
Eventually, Matthew stops asking where they're going or when they'll get there. He stops asking about Ronan because he has Kavinsky and Kavinsky is enough.
