Hank and Connor (but like as a fam u know) and the word āpulpā my dude!
send me a character/ship + a word and iāll write a ficlet for it!
The crime scene is not a crime scene to the woman in the ambulance, Connor thinks. Sheās sitting hunched over, a blanket draped across her shoulders, staring doggedly at the ground and answering in single syllables to the paramedic at her side. His Social Relations program recommends a minimum of one hour before they approach her for questioning. They have other things to do in the meantime.
āIām just warning you,ā says the officer at the door. Heās looking at Hank as he speaks, which probably isnāt malicious, just force of habit.Ā āItāsāpretty bad. Like, itās fucked up.ā
Hank brushes past him with a mumble of assent, and Connor follows. The house is dark. They go straight to the master bathroom, which still has its light on, and thereās the victim. Whatās left of him, half-drowned in the Jacuzzi.
āOhāā Hank claps a hand over his mouth.Ā āJesus fuckinā Christ.ā
Connor steps closer. Humans are fragile, of course, but the murderer clearly hadnāt known that. Why else would they have tried to destroy the body so completely?
āAttempted dissolution,ā he says.Ā āEither the killer ran out of time, or they simply didnāt care enough to complete the job.ā
āUh, yeah,ā says Hank, from behind his palm. Connor pivots, and heās staring resolutely at the sink, which is streaked with blood-thick fingerprints.Ā āYeah, he⦠he clearly didnāt go down without a fight. Christ. Poor son of a bitch.ā
āWe could check the bedroom forāā
āYeah, letās.ā Hank is through the doorway before Connor can finish his sentence. They step out of the bathroomās cold glow, and the lieutenant looks pale and drawn as he pushes a hand past his hairline.
āThis shit doesnāt get to you,ā he says.
Connor blinks.Ā āThe crime scene? I understand if itās disturbing. I just donāt think of it that way.ā
āI meanāIām not sayinā it should. Hell, Iām glad it doesnāt.ā Hank shakes his head and exhales with a familiar weight. Heās frustrated. Noāheās confused.Ā āI wouldnāt want you to have to deal with it like the rest of us do. Itās just that you take it so well, I guess. āM not used to it.ā
Like the rest of us.Ā āI can be affected by it, if you want me to,ā says Connor.Ā āI canāā He breaks off and when he speaks again, a tremor edges his voice.Ā āMaybe it does get to me. I wouldnāt know, would I?ā
āCut that out,ā Hank snaps. And Connor does.
