We deplaned and as we were on the ramp off the plane I took the kids aside.  I told them I knew the trip so far hadn’t been what we’d hoped for, but to change our attitudes:  From this point on we were on vacation!

My pep talk didn’t work. They were sluggish and moody for the next 2 hours (much to both my and my mom’s disappointment).  I was feeling grumpy too, and couldn’t shake it off.  

We got the rental car, and while the lady at the desk was nice enough I think I was rude to her (unintentionally).  She reminded me of my Aunt Tammy, and said a lot of Hawaiian phrases (Ya).  I was reminded we were in Hawaii!  

My mom said I needed a glass of wine so I could relax.  I responded I could relax once we were settled in.  I’d made a schedule complete with details about everything we needed to get done so I didn’t need to worry about planning anything.  I’d just look at the schedule and it would tell me how long a drive took or when we needed to leave.  It even had our shopping list on it!  It took me 6 hours to make, and was one of the ways I’d planned to be able to relax this week.

Plot twist:  The itinerary I’d worked so hard completing was left on the plane in the seatback.  Wonderful.

I still had my printed directions however.  First stop: The Girl Scout store!  Woot!  I was really excited about this one.  Only problem: NONE of the streets on my directions corresponded with names of any of the streets we saw.  Mom turned on her phone’s GPS, but we were unable to locate the shop. Maybe we’ll find it another day…

We decided to go to Costco instead.  The kids were really grumpy, and despite hoping for otherwise, I was grumpy too. We walked around aimlessly trying to figure out what we wanted to eat this week.  I really needed that list!  About halfway through shopping I had Thomas get out his cell phone and made a list on it as we went.  That seemed to help, and gave me a plan.
