this isn't what i wanted.
"Iâm sorry.â His voice is low as he stands by the girlâs bed. He didnât even know her when he picked her up and took off into a run, but he did know that he couldnât leave her unattended. How was he supposed to know she didnât want to go to Daybreak? Hell, when he picked her up he didnât even know she was a mutant. If it hadnât been for her blood closing up his wounds he wouldnât have even batted an eye, but because of it he panicked. He had to help the girl out. It was obvious that he couldnât just leave her there. But was this any better? He didnât really know.
âIâm so sorry... I know this ainât the best place but it was all I could do in the time I had.â He shakes his head- messy white hair moving in front of his eyes just a little. âThey wonât hurt you. They shouldnât... If they do, you talk to me. Iâll make sure nothinâ happens. As soon as youâre all better, youâre free to go too...â His voice shakes just a little with his last words. He wants to offer her some comfort, but can he?
Can he even blame her? Places like Daybreak have never been anything but disgusting to him. He canât even bring himself to truly trust this place. He lives here because he felt like he had to all those years ago. Now heâs just here because heâs attached to some of the people. For all he knows, Daybreak is a cover for a facility like Mutagen. They could be hurting mutants just like him. They could be experimenting on humans and mutants alike- trying to unlock some sort of of twisted âpotentialâ. Thatâs what they call it, isnât it? Theyâre supposed to be special because their freaks.
He doesnât want her to get hurt. Daybreak shouldnât try to take her blood- shouldnât do anything to her without her permission that isnât just to help her. But whatâs their definition of help? Is researching her power help? Is confining her and not allowing her to leave Daybreak help? He doesnât know. He also doesnât want to think too much about it. The last thing he needs is for her to see that heâs nervous. If she knows, itâll probably only worry her more. So he sits still and puts on a smile. Itâs small, but itâs enough.
âIf nothing else, youâre safe with me, ok?â
