29. going off to war AU

The dressing room was quiet. The sky was grey and cloudy, casting dim sunlight through. The two figures didn't comment on that. the taller was watching the smaller. The smaller, perched on a footstool, was more focused on the coat he wore.

"Please be careful."

"Don't worry, Treasure. My position is purely ceremonial."

Siv didn't look up at Kari as she worked on buttoning up his coat. "I don't trust that," she admitted, speaking the doubt that coated his voice. He looked strikingly handsome in the sharp purple coat, but it left a bitter tang in her mouth. She finished up the silver buttons and plucked a hair off his shoulder. All an excuse to touch him. "You know how Endre is."

Kari hummed, gently taking her hand. Heat filled her cheeks as he pressed a kiss to the back of her hand. "I know," he admitted. "But I have you to come back to, don't I?"
