It had taken a couple of hours, but they'd reached the point in the party where Amaia was actually excited to have her father there and was making him help her with everything. She was seven years old and Karina was pretty proud of what an awesome kid she was turning out to be. The one thing she worried about was the resentment she'd picked up on after Amaia turned six and came home from school asking why her daddy didn't live with her like everyone else's daddy did.
It was hard, but Karina was Karina and she'd found a way to deal with it. There had been a lot of pouting and a lot of refusing to see Dylan when he came to pick her up to take her to the zoo or do other fun father-daughter things, but Karina was hoping that Amaia would grow out of it. She had a great dad who loved her more than life and Karina wished that she could see it. What made it hard though was the fact that her father also had three other children, and even though Amaia and Charlie got along really well, Amaia wasn't adjusting well to not being the only girl.
Joey was four and Dinah was two, and even though they were being occupied by Aubrey and Lukas, any time Dylan made a move to check on them, Amaia was pulling him in the other direction. Finally the kids were occupied with the show that Dante was putting on with his guitar and Karina was in the kitchen getting everything ready for cake and ice cream.
"She finally let you go?" she asked Dylan as he walked in.
