Part Two — Detectives Kara & James

The next morning at CatCo, Kara couldn’t stop staring at Winn.

He was typing away at his computer like usual, surrounded by snacks, gadgets, and tiny collectibles on his desk. But something about him felt… off.

Kara leaned closer to James.

Kara: “James, Winn has been acting really strange lately.”

James: “Strange how?”

Kara: “He’s tired all the time, disappears randomly, and gets weird whenever I ask questions.”

James shrugged.

James: “Honestly? He probably stayed up all night playing video games again. You know how Winn is.”

Kara narrowed her eyes suspiciously.

Kara: “Maybe… but I still think something’s going on.”

She glanced back at Winn.

Kara: “After work, we’re following him.”

James blinked.

James: “We are what now?”

Later That Evening

Work finally ended.

Winn stretched in his chair dramatically.

Winn: “Yay! Time to go home and… um… work on stuff.”

He quickly grabbed his bag and headed out.

Kara immediately stood up.

Kara: “Alright, James. Let’s go.”

James: “I can’t believe we’re spying on Winn.”

Kara: “Technically it’s investigating.”

Outside Winn’s Apartment

Kara and James carefully peeked through the window.

Inside, Winn tossed his keys onto the counter.

Winn: “Alright, I’m home.”

He filled a bowl with cereal, grabbed a Star Wars plush from the couch, and sat down with a video game controller.

A few seconds later—

Winn: “Ha! This game is awesome.”

James crossed his arms smugly.

James: “See? Totally normal.”

Kara sighed.

Kara: “Okay… maybe you were right.”

Then suddenly—

A small device on Winn’s wrist beeped.

Winn instantly sat up.

He quickly finished his cereal, looked around cautiously, and disappeared into another room.

A moment later, he reappeared wearing a long dark coat that covered almost everything—including most of his face.

Kara’s eyes widened.

Kara: “Okay… that is definitely suspicious.”

James: “Yeah… I’ll admit that’s weird.”

Winn quickly left the apartment building.

Moments Later — Downtown National City

Police sirens echoed through the streets.

Kara: “Another robbery.”

She immediately flew off as Supergirl.

When she arrived, Blue Signal was already there.

The masked hero landed in front of the robber.

Blue lines glowed faintly across his suit.

Blue Signal: “Hey. You should probably stop right there.”

Robber: “Oh yeah? Or what?”

Blue Signal lifted his wrist gauntlet.

Blue Signal: “Or this.”

ZZZT!

An electric pulse shot from the device, knocking the robber onto the ground.

Blue Signal calmly handcuffed him before turning him over to the police.

Blue Signal: “Take him away, boys.”

Kara landed nearby, watching carefully.

Something wasn’t adding up.

How did Blue Signal get here so fast?

And more importantly—

Where did Winn disappear to?

Back at Winn’s Apartment

Kara returned quietly.

Through the window, she saw Winn asleep on the couch.

Still wearing pajamas.

No coat in sight.

Winn: “Zzzzzz…”

Kara stared in confusion.

Kara: “Okay… now I’m officially suspicious.”

James looked equally confused.

James: “Either Winn has a secret life… or we’re both losing it.”

The Next Day — CatCo

Kara walked into the office carrying coffee for Cat Grant.

After delivering it, she headed straight toward Winn’s desk with James beside her.

Winn looked exhausted.

Kara: “Morning, sleepyhead.”

Winn: “Oh, you know… busy as ever. Being a tech genius is a lot of work.”

He laughed nervously and immediately went back to typing.

Kara folded her arms.

Kara: “Winn… you’re doing it again.”

Winn froze.

Winn: “Doing what?”

Kara: “Acting weird. Well… weirder than usual.”

James nodded.

James: “Buddy, you know you can tell us anything, right?”

Winn suddenly looked way too nervous.

Winn: “Hiding something? Me? Never! Ha ha…”

He looked around awkwardly.

Kara glanced knowingly at James.

Kara: “He is definitely hiding something.”

Winn pointed at himself dramatically.

Winn: “Kara, honey, listen. If I—the incredible tech man—had some huge secret… I totally would’ve told you.”

He smiled innocently.

Kara narrowed her eyes.

She wasn’t buying it.

Not for a second.

Because Kara can't have male friends who aren't romantically interested in her but she also can't have female friends who ARE romantically interested in her.
