5. Tatiana Childs. First of all, writing Tat and understanding her as an aromantic character actually kinda helped me figure out that, hey, I have no idea what the hell romantic attraction is because I’ve never actually experienced it, so she’s forever in my heart for that. Beyond that, I really love writing her at different points in her character development? Like there’s pre-canon Ice Queen “I am exactly the daughter my parents wanted and there is one person on this entire planet who knows otherwise and he’s my brother and honestly I don’t believe anyone could tell you which of us is worse off in this situation” Tatiana and there’s post-canon “I’m human* and ace/aro and your bigotry is an affront to decency” Tat and there’s all of these stages in between and I love her interactions with Biff (I wanna RP more with them it’s delightful when we do), and I love the way she and Jason slowly become friends and the way she meets Eren through him, and I love the way she and Robert end up making peace and her explanation that she knows what happened to him and wasn’t in a position where it was safe for her to be vocal about not condoning it but he has to understand that her silence wasn’t because she agreed but because the same thing would have happened to her if she’d said anything, and she and Lulu rekindle their friendship and EVERYTHING ABOUT TAT’S INTERACTIONS WITH OTHER PEOPLE IS SO IMPORTANT TO ME. Plus her passion for science is super fun!

4. Also for vampyverse and also human is Brendon Carp. He’s also got some really great character development and occasionally I regret some of the hell I put him through but then I look at him at one of the spots we’ve chosen to poke at post-canon and I don’t really any more? He’d definitely be a very different character if we’d started canon one year post-canon, and the way he deals with grief, and the way that method changes, are very big parts of that. I dunno I just really like thinking about how incredibly fluid everything that happens between him and Carlisle is– a month earlier and they would have been toxic, a month later and I doubt either of them would have paid the other a second glance and maybe they both would have been happy without each other and I kinda feel like the fluidity of his personality doesn’t really end? Like most of my kids undergo a lot of development and, while they still undergo change afterwards, they are who they are and they settle into a pretty strong “self.” Brendon doesn’t reach that point for much, much longer, and I find working with him and following that pretty interesting (I also am realizing I don’t really know who he is from 16 to 21 and that merits a good hard look).

3. Eli Torres! I can’t explain why I love this one and I just need it to be accepted that I do he’s a wonderful person and he and Robert are perfect for each other in ways that are both by design and unanticipated. This one took his sweet time telling me who he is, and I kinda always love the ones who give me their personality in the way they give me their personalities. Not to mention that he’s the one who gives me the greatest difference between “What’s he thinking” and “What are his actions” and that’s always fun as a writer. Eeeeeeeven if it is kind of sad as like. A person.

2. Um. Okay can I do six because choosing between Vlad and Meg Prebble feels really unfair. I can? Great, thanks. So these kids mark our first appearance of a non-vampyverse OC in my top 5 (6), and Vlad is actually a vampire in the universe I currently consider to be these two’s canon goddammit. Anyways, these two beat out all of my other OCs in actual age. Meg has been around since I was about seven, and I made Vlad a couple years later. These two are always fun and always good for playing with a universe and they’re tied for first LGBTQ+ OCs and just
