#direnayol is @ 15th !f Istanbul Independent Film Festival
Kanka Productions presents #direnayol (english #resistayol), a documentary about LGBTI Blok during/after Gezi Park Protests*.
In 2013, Rüzgâr sets out to make a documentary about a close friend Şevval, a trans LGBT activist. The timing of the documentary coincides with a transformational moment in Istanbul during the 2013 Gezi Park protests and the subsequent Pride march. The documentary shifts focus and we travel the streets meeting many activists instead of one, and get a sense of LGBTI activists’ contribution to the protests; we feel their exuberance, their hopes, and share their sense of humor. #resistayol is a fresh, exuberant documentary that reminds us of the many lively colors of human living.

Kanka Productions is a collective of buddies, who came together through queer-feminist comradeship. Our first feature-length production, #direnayol, is realised by great efforts from the collective, particularly from Rüzgâr Buşki, Senem Donatan, P. Ulaş Dutlu, me, and Zara Zandieh.
We are extremely happy to have the world premier of #direnayol during !f Istanbul 2016. There will be two more screenings in the following days: Mar 4th in Izmir, Mar 6th in Ankara. (more info here)
We hope to share #direnayol with more people around the globe. Stay tuned for updates from Kanka Productions via facebook, twitter, instagram or soundcloud.
* Gezi Uprising was a wave of protests, initially held against a gentrification plan of an urban public park in Istanbul, called Gezi Parkı. Soon after, the protests turned out to be a bigger movement opposing the government, increasing conservatism and gentrification politics.
