1859 (I CAN'T TYPE THIS ONE) It looks like 土 plus 戸
apparently pronounced コ and the dictionary seriously just says 義未詳 ("definition unknown") lol It goes on to say that sometimes it's been used as a substitute for 壚 ("black soil") which is ALSO super obscure.
696 兢 キョウ おそ(れる) be afraid つつし(む) be careful It is somehow NOT 競 (compete) though the dictionary says it's sometimes used in place of that one.

Kanji number 7, requested by shirubaraito! (Another jouyou kanji!)
7 丁 チョウ、テイ
This one is a counter for long and/or narrow and/or flat things, including pages, blocks of tofu, scissors, and guns! Counters are weird.
It's also in some words that just kind of needed a "chou" or "tei" sound for whatever reason, like 丁寧(ていねい polite/careful)
This blog hit 500 followers over the weekend! Thank you all (and welcome to everyone new)!
I want to do some kind of giveaway, but I don't have stuff to give away, so I'm going to be silly and weird instead! See, I have in my possession a kanji dictionary with 14,313 entries in it. Many of them are of the hilarious "why did anyone even NEED a kanji for that?" variety. Sooo...
Everyone who sends me a number between 1 and 14,313 by August 13, 2014 will get a kanji!
Or at least a post with a kanji (or a picture of one if it's weird to type) and its readings and meanings. These posts will be tagged with the person's username and #kanjispam. I don't even kind of know how many of them there will be.
