The caterpillar eats absolutely everything all the time, both edible and inedible, organic and inorganic. It does not suffer from hunger, it's driven only by a constant desire to swallow something. The caterpillar continues to eat, even if it causes pain and may injure itself. Some of the things it swallows can tear open its stomach, and it doesn't mind eating its own flesh and organs. But that's the last thing it does when other nearest things to eat are gone, because caterpillar meat is the most disgusting thing you can put in your mouth (It's probably not even meat)

It periodically gains so much weight that it becomes impossible to move, at such moments, it stretches its neck (like tendrils of plants) and grows additional limbs closer to its head. The body that is left behind rots, causing various diseases, and often becomes a source of epidemics/ epizootics/ epiphytotics

When threatened, this creature vomits on the attacker. If this doesn't work, it separates its head from its body and grows small legs to escape

And no one loves the caterpillar

And it's intelligent enough to realize it
