       He’s never heard the word dad with an accompanying qualifier like that -- is it something terrible? Something that he should have learned by now? Kureno mentally catalogues the term, files it away among all those things that he must now study. But beyond the ah --- unusual ? descriptor, the question itself is fairly straightforward and he offers a gentle, if somewhat uneasy, laugh.

       A gentle smile lights on his lips and he makes no move to smooth it over. Kakeru is -- interesting. Alive in a way that Kureno has not quite experienced yet and there is something about that energy that gives him -- well, he can’t quite call it relief or serenity. But there’s certainly hope. If he were prone to it, he might be jealous of that ease with words and feelings. Except he’s not, and all he feels is a genuine sort of fondness and a fluttering gratitude.

       He’s -- if he’s being perfectly honest, he’s not... quite sure that’s how the song goes. From radio plays and the odd caroler or two, Kureno thought he had learned the way the tune is supposed to go. But then -- there is so much that he recognizes he still has to learn. Perhaps there are different renditions in different areas ? New words for a recognizable melody ? Who is he to question the validity of a song he’d only learned recently himself. 

       ❛ --- -- Oh ! ❜ The can startles him -- the movement, the suddenness, he can’t say, so it takes him a moment to find his bearings, cycling past confusion and straight into glowing praise and cheer. ( all the while calming that startled reflex that simply won’t die. ) ❛ Yes, of course! That was -- really wonderful! Have a Merry Christmas, #Black ! ❜ And he promptly deposits the money.
