Shadows

It had been a long time since she thought back to that day. A very very long time... she had pretty much tried to erased the memories from her to pretend like it never happened, and after so long, it was amazing how much one conversation would bring back. The noble broad went on talking about shadow magic, the shadow realm, curses, and everything the monk had tried to forget suddenly came flooding back, and she was reminded all over again why she stayed the fuck away from that shit. She did her job, passed the woman's name to someone she knew who could help, and Kailaeya backed the fuck up, and went on her way, staying far away from that mess.Â
"Tel da goroth fal morr'dez nat karrek..."
She could still hear their chanting... the words flooding through her mind. She could feel the leather bindings on her wrists still, they felt like fire scorching her skin, and the darkest night she could ever remember. Everything was black, there was no light to be seen, not even a faint sliver. As if the Light had long since abandoned her. These were the memories that plagued her nightmares, the memories she drank away with every bottle of whiskey.Â
"You wretched child.... you insolent FOOL... I will devour your soul..."
Her soul... what soul... she felt she had lost that long ago. She shook ehr head slowly, forcing the memory from her mind. The beast had been locked away, and no longer had power. It could not speak to her, could not control her.Â
A darkness surged through her like lightning, her body convulsing as she cried out a blood curdling scream of agony. It was a pain in which she had never felt before, she could not breathe, internal ruptures allowed blood to pour from her eyes, ears, nose, and mouth, causing her to gargle, choke, and spit up her own blood as she thrashed. Her body felt as if it was being torn apart on a molecular level.Â
The monk lifted the bottle to her lips, taking a long swig as she looked at the Hall of the Respite from the Exchange. She knew why she was staring at it, she didn't want to be, but she knew why she was. She wanted to go in, but her legs refused to carry her. As much as she had a purpose in there, she had an equal purpose to avoid it, an internal conflict raging within her.Â
The straps snapped around her wrists, a fel infused strength taking over the child's body. She still couldn't see, she was blinded, but she could taste... she could still taste the blood that filled her mouth, she could smell the bodies of the elves around her, three elves... one human... and she could hear the canting voice in her head. "Rethul.... Rethul.... Rethul..."
"Suffer... suffer... suffer..." she idly repeated to herself absentmindedly. The beast wanted suffering. She remembered that aching hunger for pain and agony. It came from the deepest pit of her stomach, a yearning need to cause suffering.Â
"THEAZ'KARE NEX MIRAK'AZ DA VREX SER REKKA SER RA! NAZ REKKA IR MERK IR NAZ SEROX SER THEOZ MOXIS IREK VOUZAR! KIEL ZE AMAN GUL ZE REVOS KIEL ZE AMAN GUL ZE REVOS! SVAR GAL ZE NOX SVAR REKK DAR! RETHUL!!"
She took another long swig from the bottle, finishing it off before tossing it into a nearby bin. As much as she struggled with herself, she stepped forward into the hall. She had a sinking feeling that nothing good would come of this, but she had to sate her own curiosity. She needed to know more about what happened to her, she had avoided it far too long, and the fact one conversation with some hot shot noble brought all this out from her was a testament she handled it poorly.Â
Their blood was warm, dripping from the tips of her fingers. She could smell all of them, the scent of their fel tainted blood ran like a river. Even if she could not see, she heard as each of them took their last breath, and that yearning need in her was sated... the beast was satisfied... for the time. It wasn't until the beast had been thoroughly indulged did her sight come back, and the littered, mauled, mutilated bodies of those she called friends littered the ground around her feet.Â
It was a scene she couldn't forget, so matter how hard she tried. To this day, she could still feel their skin beneath her nails, their blood smeared across her face. She could still feel... smell... hear... everything. Once she entered the hall, she took a sharp right, heading up the steps towards the back corner, her eyes scanning over the tombs on the shelves. It took her a moment or two, but she finally found what she was looking for. Reaching up, she plucked a book regarding the shadow realm from the shelf, and opened it slowly, thumbing through the pages hastily. As if she was nervous to actually read it.Â
She was almost afraid of what she'd find about herself in those pages.Â
