hello :) i stumbled across your blog while looking through the wellesley tag and I'm wondering why you chose this college ~ I'm from the UK and I'm interested in going to america for uni :D

HELLOOOOO!! (sorry this took so long to respond)

Okay, so here it goes, and I'm going to try to be as honest as possible.

How I found out about Wellesley:

My dad. While I was looking at colleges (which tbh I didn't start my search until summer before senior year) he kept bothering me about this "school that Hillary Clinton went to." So when I did my summer college tour I picked 5 different schools to go to, one big, one small, one women's, one ivy, one in the middle of no where, just so I could have an idea of what type of school to go to. Because my dad had been nagging me about Wellesley, I visited it, fully intending just to humor him...turns out I LOVED the school. I loved the beautiful campus, the honor code, the class, and most importantly the way my tour guide spoke. I knew that when I graduated I wanted to be a person who was both intelligent and well spoken, and out of all the places I visited, the student who was my tour guide at Wellesley was the poster child of this desire.

Why I chose Wellesley:

I got in. I did have another top choice, but I only was accepted at my safety school and Wellesley, and because I received sufficient financial support the choice was a no-brainer.

Why it is awesome and you should come:

Being a student at Wellesley you will be surrounded by some of the most intelligent women you will ever meet, you will learn about topics in a nuanced fashion that will frustrate and challenge you in ways you probably won't get elsewhere, as a woman you will have your voice and point of view heard in a way that I believe can be difficult at a co-ed school, and you are close enough to a city to do the cool things that come with city-life (okay so I know that coming from out of the US this might sound like a far drive but honest 40min to 1 hour outside of Boston is actually not that far).

Hey, I saw you're doing a French AS? Just wondering how difficult you're finding it because I'm considering changing from French to psychology and weighing up the pros and cons :)

Hello! Personally I love French and I’m not finding it that difficult (so far!) because I enjoy it. I’m on the WJEC exam board. The topics are similar to GCSE at A-Level and the only hard thing so far is memorising grammar rules and verb tables which isn’t that bad because I use apps on my phone to help.Then again, my school is cramming all the grammar we need to know in a 6 week crash course and yours might just spread it out. I think that French would be an awesome A-Level to take and I’ve heard that it’s generally more respected than psychology? At the end of the day it’s up to you and it depends on the career choice you want. I’m doing French with History, English and Economics(which I’m planning to drop at A2) so I’m more of an arts student but if you do the sciences and want to go down that route maybe psychology would be more useful. Even so, the fact that you have tried to navigate in a foreign language is impressive no matter what route you take. So far my friends that are doing psychology say it’s really interesting but they have around 3 essays to do a week, but the workload will be different depending on your teachers I guess. If you’re confident in French I would stick to it, I picked it because I thought, “What is the point in dropping it after working hard at GCSE?”. So many people fork out a lot of money on private tuitions etc to learn a language so to learn it for 2 extra years for free is great!
