I'm sorry but this is funny. I grew up in southwest Missouri most of my life. They barely shut schools down unless there was actual ICE on over 45% of the rural roads. Not in town roads. Rural roads. I remember going to school one winter when it was in negative digits. The only time when they closed down bc of just snow was when it physically stopped a bus from moving. Most times they'd just delay it a few hours and we get a half day.

Winter is nothing new to us and we NEVER close anything. Well, unless there are frozen/broken water lines. Snow that falls an inch an hour resulting in feet of snow? No worries. Ice? Barely a consideration. We function in below zero weather, but in this case, it’s the high winds that are a concern. You mix in feet of snow, -30 wind chills, roads that are impassable? That’s when the decision to not risk kids - most of whom walk to school - and keep them home.
