Kaddar: You okay, Daine?
Daine: No. Not at all, actually. But thanks for asking! Appreciate it!
Emperor Mage - Another Feast
âDo you see any happy faces around here?â he asked, indicating to the servers that they would have the catfish....
...Daine made a face. She wanted no lands or titles from the Emperor Mage! With a sigh she returned her ears to their normal shape and concentrated on the meal and her companions. As the sky darkened, they nibbled fried pockets of noodles and pork in a sweet sauce and talked about Kaddarâs mother and sisters. Kitten, thinking herself unobserved, gobbled boarâs tail with hot sauce, then had to leap for the water pitcher.
-Emperor Mage, Tamora Pierce

As Kitten is not human, we skipped the boarâs tail, but the catfish and pork pockets were delicious with a sweet hot sauce! I donât know if Iâve ever had catfish before.
Emperor Mage/Tempests and Slaughter
So in the very first line of Emperor Mage, Kaddar is listed as "prince of Siraj."
In Tempests and Slaughter, Ozorne is super racist against the Sirajit.
He must really hate Kaddar, and whoever Kaddar's father is.
Maybe Ozorne becomes more tolerant in the rest of the Numair trilogy ah ha ha ha nope.

Emperor Mage: Feast on the Water
âWould you like to visit the university tomorrow?â asked Kaddar, offering her a bowl of olives. âMaster Lindhall will be here, and heâs said he wants you to see his workroom.â
âIâd like that. Kaddar, what did your uncle say when you told him about the lightning that-â
She stopped, puzzled. The prince was shaking his head vigorously. âDonât talk about it,â he ordered, lips barely moving.
...âWhy? It happened, didnât it? And he canât have a listening spell on us, or Kit wouldâve said something.â The dragon, sampling pumpkin slices stewed in cumin, and sea urchins in bay sauce, shook her head. âSo why canât we talk about it?â Daine asked reasonably.
...They had just finished their main course, stuffed goose, when Numair came over to their table.
...Daine peeled an orange for Zek while Kitten munched on a goose bone.
...Kaddar drained his cup of pomegranate juice. âNonsense. He was just looking out for you.â
--Emperor Mage, Tamora Pierce
-----------------------------------
A fair bit going on here! Olives are olives, pomegranate juice is pomegranate juice, and oranges are oranges, of course.
For the pumpkin slices stewed in cumin, we got a sugar pumpkin and stewed it according to these directions, adding a significant amount of cumin in with the sugar and soy sauce.
Sea urchins in bay sauce were made using store-bought sushi uni, and soaked in this bay sauce which paired really well!
The goose was roasted and paired with this delicious stuffing that my guests ended up asking for the recipe!
The emperor may have his faults but he keeps a lovely table...
