Painting: Movement Week 3
Monday 27/1/25
We started with Life painting- using a palette of a mid tone dark tone and light tone that we mixed ourselves from the primaries and white.
Started with a a gestural sketch and sealing the page, then after a break to let the paint dry, we added in more details.
I think my biggest mistake with this was the lack of room at his feet: I should’ve extended the page, as he looks quite cramped- he has decent headroom but no foot room, leaving him feeling quite stocky. I am otherwise quite happy with this. I have no in progress pictures, as phones were (very understandably) not allowed.
Afterwards we arranged the pairings on the ground until we found an arranged that had enough visual interest and contrast, then we hung it in the wall for our own impromptu gallery.
Abstracting The Pigeon.

Experimenting with Shape through Air dry foam clay. I must get shapier.
Inspired by the work of Nathan D Hernandez, i wanted to try my hand at this sort of 2.5D work, again playing with the flattening, volumising, and then flattening again of objects. I got some cheap air dry foam clay from a child's DIY kit with the primary colours, mixed my own, and then made the shape based off an abstract sketch of pigeon I'd made. I then took a picture of that, brought it into procreate and touched it up a little, smoothing and defining shpes and colours, correcting slightly where the colours where not quite right.
