Tumblr Redesign: "Secondary" Forms
Expanding from āThe Star Spangled Bannerā, my aim is to expose the āsecondaryā content of a composition by removing its ādominant" part. Almost like a reverse X-ray, the dominant structure is ignored, revealing an underlying form.Ā
I was inspired by Chrisā exploration of the machine artifact, particularly how it allows scientific analysis. X-rays are used to diagnose whatās wrong underneath. Hence, I put my colleaguesā works through a "Tumblr Reverse X-ray Machineā and churned out them out in JPEG, GIF, and MP4.Ā
Everyone was so busy generating their ādominantā forms that they neglected their āsecondaryā forms. In the digital medium (particularly tumblr), it's actually these hidden forms and byproducts that allow compositions to exist and thrive. I want to recover it, appreciate its beauty, and challenge the notion that the ādominantā has more value. Shame on all of you.Ā
