in prisoner of azkaban, when they first start talking about peter pettigrew, they compare him directly to neville longbottom. and they constantly talk about the similarities between james & harry, in their looks, quidditch, even having the same patronus (and marrying a redhead lmao), so like....if we’re making a parallel here between the marauders & the trio + neville, that leaves us with hermione being lupin, bookish and smart but not afraid to cause trouble under the right circumstances, and ron being sirius, the inseparable best friend who’s more concerned with pranks than potions.
