I’m not sure if I’m really done with this one ... I might go back and add a darker background behind those leaves. I was afraid to do so at first because I didn’t want the bug to get lost in front of a background too similar to itself in color/value, but now that I see the whole thing I think it needs it. Those leaves and stems get lost in front of the yellow background I opted for instead. And if I’m not going to have the same range of values on my leaves that are in the reference photo, the least I can do is make up for it with a noticeably darker background to offset them.
Anyway, this was done at the prompting of Zoë @sunsetofdoom, who really likes these insects! I hope I have done them justice, LOL.
(If I haven’t, I’m probably going to try again with a more stylized version that puts more emphasis on the lines and shapes of its body!)
