(Day 17-18 - A desert-dweller, withstanding sand and dry heat / Emerges during the freezing desert nights)

Hatallei (Ground/Dragon) conserve their energy during the day by not moving much and using their own tail as a form of shade. As a result, the tail takes the brunt of the sun’s rays. By night, the change in temperature causes the tail to fall off, leading it to use it as a mode of transportation over the desert dunes.

did you know sand surfing was a thing? i didn’t. the basic look was based on leopard geckos. i’d like to imagine that it has either an ability or a move that forces it to change between its forms, with the covered form having higher defenses and the sandboard form having higher attack and speed

I thought it would be neat to do some fakemon concept art in a similar style to the Scarlet and Violet Books; a kind of collection of wildlife sketches. If the designs change later on, it's probably because the researchers who made the sketches didn't observe the Pokemon thoroughly enough, heh.

(Day 2 - A common Flying-type, whom thrives both within cities and fieldlands.)

Pulsay (Normal/Flying) is known for its strange heart-shaped external organ, which stores energy for its evolution. When feeling any sort of extreme emotion, it springs forward. It uses this to attack, intimidate, or even woo potential partners. When it is close to evolution, the energy will start radiating out of the organ-- the color of which is an indicator to what it will evolve to.

going forward, i’m just doing one design and not a whole line because... that’s a lot of work rip. based on bleeding heart doves, with a little bit of greater sage-grouse and the cartoon thing where the heart pops out of its chest. 

(Day 6 - A rocky creature from the mountain path.)

Shinotite (Rock) may have a startling similarity to Alola’s Shiinotic, but they are far from related. They bury themselves underground to protect their geode interiors from the weather, only leaving the tops of their heads visible. Signs to not sit on the rocks are put up at the mountains they gather at. They are not too keen on being woken up. There have been cases where they will throw unsuspecting people off their heads, uncaring of where they land.

mild s/v spoilers, but i wanted to try my hand at the whole convergent evolution thing they introduced with wiglett and other pokemon. it reminded me of doing pokemon sprite edits when i was a kid-- specifically those retype edits!

(Day 5 - Urban scavenger.)

Dwebble (Bug/Poison) in this region scavenge for a suitable shell in urban areas and landfills. The liquid they once used to bore rocks have grown so corrosive that it broke down the rock shell’s structural integrity, so they seek out any containers that can withstand it. The now toxic liquid sloshes in their shell.

(Day 10 - An unassuming pond-dweller.)

Baityke (Water/Flying) perch on nearby rocks and use its specially adapted tailfeathers as a lure for their preferred prey. However, they are just as likely to attract strong Pokemon looking for a quick snack. Whether they are prey or predator, they will fight ferociously and try to grapple them with its beak.

based on kingfishers... but taken a bit more literally. i imagine that its a 3-stage pokemon that starts as a fisherman and ends up to be a sea monster hunter of sorts with a bitter rivalry with another pokemon, moby dick-style

(Day 16 - The one they tell ghost stories about.)

Anakiyak (Ghost/Dark) lie in wait in the forest. They cry out, perfectly mimicking a recently-hatched baby Pokemon. Its right arm is used as a lure, which helps it create a further convincing deception. Legends say that a foolish child approached it to see what was wrong, only for them to disappear without a trace.
