Kyo x Machi

Now this is a true crackship, since these two, as far as I know, never interacted even once in canon. So I want to look at their relationship both realistically and in a shippy way. For a grade, I’m giving this one a B+, or if you make it part of a poly scenario, an A-.

Realistically: At some point in the future Kyo and Tohru are visiting Yuki and Machi, and Tohru is having a nice conversation with Yuki, and Kyo feels supremely awkward because he barely knows Machi.

Kyo: (Gotta say something, this is getting weird.) So, uh, does Yuki still not hang up his towel after he showers? (Oh, good job, genius, say that to his wife’s face).

Machi: OH MY GOD yes, that is so annoying. And how he doesn’t rinse out the sink after he brushes his teeth. It is the WORST.

Kyo: He still does that? Does he still not replace the toilet roll when it runs out?

And they find common ground roasting her husband. (She doesn’t feel the need to mention that she’s a slob as well).

In a shippy way: Kyo finds out about Machi’s bastard dad, and having a bastard dad himself, immediately feels kinship. “You know, you don’t always have to stick with the family you’re born with, especially if they’re assholes. You should meet my real dad.” Machi meets Kazuma and feels at home. As an excuse to be around him some more, she starts taking lessons in the dojo. The first time Kyo sees her in a karate gi, he can only think: “oh no... she’s cute.”

Machi x Tohru

I can’t remember if these two interacted directly in canon, but I suspect they didn’t. I can easily see Machi being overwhelmed by Tohru’s big love--she likes being around Tohru, but she’s also slightly scared of her. Giving this one an A-, because it’s a rare pairing where Tohru is very much the dominant partner. (Can I just say I love the idea of a sedoretu relationship where Yuki and Tohru are one moiety, while Machi and Kyo are the other).

1. how were you introduced to the series?

OKAY SO I was first introduced to the series when I was 11. My friend Alice was super into anime and just so happened to have a Yuki plush that I thought was super cute and adored so much. She let me borrow it one day and when I got home I was just looking at it when I saw that it read “Fruits Basket” on the tag. My dumb kid brain thought it was some sort of kid show with people in animal costumes singing about fruit or whatever. Curious, I got onto the family desktop and Googled Fruits Basket and the rest was history.

Bonus: My friend ended up losing her plush and I spent years searching the internet for it and I FINALLY found it almost two years ago on ebay. I instantly bought it and he sits on my desk. He is my prized possession <3

6. character that you disliked/were indifferent towards, but grew on you?

I think I’ve grown to like Akito more. I used to see her as a nasty bitch, but now that I’m older, I can see why she did what she did. It doesn’t excuse her actions and they were awful, but she was also in a really shitty mental state and environment as well? And at the end of the manga she was trying her best to be better so like… I don’t see her as a nasty bitch. I see her as someone who was hurting a lot.

7. character that you think needs more love?

I DON’T THINK ANYONE HAS SAID THIS YET BUT KUNIMITSU DESERVES MORE LOVE. He’s so funny and like such a good assistant??? Putting up with Kazuma??? That and he acts like such a brother to Kyo??? He was piratically there the entire time Kyo was growing up and I’m just kdhfldsdkll I WANT TO SEE MORE STUFF WITH HIM OKAY

Kyo x Tohru x Yuki

What a surprise from you ;). Giving this one an A. All the sweetness of Kyoru, the warmth of Yukiru, and spiciness of YuKyo in one package--and it’s more than the sum of its parts.

Scenario: Kyo sees Yuki and Tohru getting closer, certain that once again, the cat was going to be left with nothing, but did grudgingly accept that, as much as he might dislike him personally, he did seem to be a decent guy with legs that don’t quit. Tohru observes Kyo’s diminishing presence in her life with concern. One night, Kyo finds a hand-written and drawn storybook on his bed. Bemused, he looks at it. It appears to be the zodiac story, but with the addition of a riceball-shaped sprite that is friends with both the cat and the rat. In this version of the story, the cat is not tricked by the rat, but not invited in the first place, so the rat refuses to go, so the three make a home together. There is a note written on the last page to knock on Tohru’s door. With trepidation, he does.

Arisa x Arisa’s senpai (Akimoto)

YES, EXCELLENT, SUPERB, A++++++, 11/10, WOULD RECOMMEND. Canonically, these two care about each other very much. I also see them as admiring each other as well. I feel like a really healthy relationship could result from it.

Scenario: Life has not been easy for Akimoto. Going straight meant suffering consequences of her criminal past. Though she escaped prison, her criminal record and lack of schooling made getting work difficult--but she manages. Working as a cab driver, she picks up a fare--an absolutely gorgeous model. Said model glances at her posted chauffeur’s license, then looks again in disbelief. “S..senpai?” Akimoto looks in the rear-view mirror, and suddenly realizes. “Uotani?” The car screeches to a halt (in the middle of a busy road--surrounded by honking cars) as tears come to both of their eyes at finding each other again.

Yuki x Uo

Definitely a rarepair--I only recall reading one story that matched these two up. I rather like it, so I’ll give it an A-. Definitely a small part of what would attract Uo to Yuki is the fact that his mother would haaaaaaate it. The instant Arisa’s father meets Yuki, he knows that he wants this boy to stick around in her life, so it’s “Call me dad!” from the beginning.
