"يعجبني الحُرُّ الذي لا يزن الحقَّ بكثرة المؤيدين، ولا يقيس صواب الكلمة برضا الجموع. يقول ما يعتقده، ويدافع عن البريء ولو وقف في الجهة المقابلة للجميع، ولا يعبأ بمن ينفر منه؛ لأن كلمة الحق لا يحملها إلا من رسخت مبادئه، وهان عليه ثمنها."
I admire the free-spirited person who does not measure truth by the number of those who stand behind it, nor judge the rightness of a word by the approval of the crowd. They speak what they believe, defend the innocent even if it means standing alone against everyone else, and are unmoved by those who turn away from them. For the truth is carried only by those whose principles are firmly rooted, and to whom the price of speaking it is a small one.
