From this moment on, it became the capital of Japan. Then starting in 1868, during the Meiji era, Japan began its assimilation of Western civilization. Now, Tokyo is a mix of modern and traditional. Kenrokuen (兼六園) in Kanazawa is known as one of Japan's "three most beautiful landscape gardens" along with Mito's Kairakuen and Okayama's Korakuen. The spacious grounds used to be the outer garden of Kanazawa Castle and visitors can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the garden with the changing seasons. The Tadami Line (只見線, Tadami-sen) is a railway line in Japan operated by East Japan Railway Company (JR East). It connects Aizu-Wakamatsu Station in Aizuwakamatsu, Fukushima with Koide Station in Uonuma, Niigata and is known for its scenic views. Jigokudani Monkey Park is a park inhabited by macaques monkeys also known as snow monkeys. Here, you can watch monkeys bathing in the hot springs during Winter, which is when this park is most famous. The park has one man-made pool, located a few minutes from the park enterance, where the monkeys gather. Accostumed to humans, the monkeys can be observed from up close and ignore the watching guests. There's a small information center in the park to teach visitors about the monkey troop and the alpha male system. When you go to a Japanese convenience store you'll come across these plastic pouches with twist off taps in the refrigerated section. What are they? These pouches are usually fruit flavored. Many of them are filled with fruit juice and konnyaku (konjac jam) which is a jelly like substance. They're low in calories and high in fiber. They're good snacks for kids, but because they usually have vitamins in them, adults sometimes use them as snacks on the go when rushing for their train, or too busy shopping to eat. Baby Star Ramen snacks were made in 1959, when leftover ramen noodles were seasoned and given to employees. They launched with two flavors chicken soup and vegetable flavor. These two flavors remain the same today, but there are many other flavors and special edition ones like Kimchi seaweed, curry and more. Baby Star Ramen are small, dried, seasoned ramen noodles that you can eat with your hands and go great with beer. It's such a popular snack, that a Baby Star Ramen amusement park opened in Nagoya.
