So, your oikawa fics are honestly amazing! I was hoping I could request one based on the song heartbreak hotel by Abigail Barlow where oikawa is trying to woo the reader but she rejects him constantly. Thank you!
oh no itâs been so long since iâve posted
i stopped watching haikyuu for a while and i kind of fell out of writing! but here i am, and i am back with big plans!
iâd just gotten over a breakup earlier this year so this piece is actually pretty relatable for me haha...Â
keep the requests coming!!
You stare wide-eyed at the bouquet of flowers that were held to your face. Your attention slowly focuses on the man holding them. It had just dawned upon you, after two long weeks.
Oikawa Tooru had been flirting with you. How could you have been so oblivious?
"Oikawa-kun," you trailed off.
Almost immediately, the hand falls to his side. His fist clenches over the stem of the flowers. âHave I misread the signs? Did I misinterpret the vibes between us?â
In all honesty, you had just gotten broken up with nearly three weeks ago. Oikawa came prancing into your life over a common interest when you bumped into each other in the gym. You enjoyed the company, if you were going to be honest.
The one thing you hadnât intended on doing was leading the poor guy on. It hadnât occurred to you that you might have while you were busy keeping your mind off of your ex.
âNo, itâs not like that at all!â You quickly came to your own defence. You threw your hands up to shake them to dismiss his doubt. âItâs just that...â
As far as everyone knew, you had just woken up one day and shut yourself out from everybody else. Youâd come into the gym and ignore everyone. You would go to class, do your allocated work and go straight home - the entire day without talking to anybody at all.
You just started coming out of your shell after youâd bumped into Oikawa. Youâre even getting proper sleep again, and youâre eating as much as a normal college student should be.
He tilts his head in confusion. âWhat is it?â
You sigh, âIâm getting over a breakup right now. Itâs only going to be a month.â
He raises his eyebrow. âDo you want to get back together with him?â
Just three days ago, you were still lying in bed crying over the loss youâve been mourning over for weeks. But today was different. Youâd woken up feeling better than the other days that followed getting dumped. Things just seemed to be a lot brighter than before.
âOf course, I donât.â
He folds his arms over his chest and rubs his chin. He pouts his lip out as he goes into a deep thought.
Now you start to feel like you should defend yourself. âItâs not that youâre not a great guy, Oikawa-kun! Itâs just that Iâm not fully over my ex yet and I simply donât think that you deserve someone who is unsure of their feelings right now.â
You angle your head in a way to catch his gaze. To your surprise, he only continue to look further down to the ground where it would be impossible for you to make eye contact. âI just donât know exactly what I feel for you right now. I like being with you and spending time with you is always the highlight of my week. I just donât think you deserve someone who is not sure.â
He hums and nods, seeming to understand what youâd just said. âDo you want me to take a step back?â
You like the attention, if you had to admit. You love the warmth he gave to you every time he was there to keep you company. Itâs just that you are not sure of anything right now.Â
Itâs only just starting to come back together for you.
How were you so sure that this wouldnât end up with you in a fit of rage and a puddle of tears in a few months?
âI really enjoy being with you. I just donât want to be the one that keeps you waiting when there are other opportunities out there. People who are ready for you.â
He shakes his head. âIf you canât say to my face confidently that you do not want me, then Iâm not letting you out of my sight.â He grins, takes a step forward and then held up the flowers to your face again. âYouâre too fucking good for me to let go of.â
You snatch the flowers from his hands and grumble under your breath. âOkay, fine. But we go at my pace, got it?â You raise an eyebrow fiercely. âI have too much going on and having a boyfriend is a lot of commitment that Iâm just not all for right now.â
His lips stretch into a wide smile. âAnything is worth it for you.â

oikawa tooru
and i banished every single memory you and i had ever made
but when you touch me like this
and you hold me like that
i just have to admit that itâs all coming back to me
âOkay, meet back at this queue in 15 minutes? You get your stuff and Iâll get mine,â you instruct your boyfriend slowly, making sure that he heard you through the loud music booming in the department store.
âOkay! Iâm not a child â see you in 15 minutes, baby,â he laughs. He puts his hand on the back of your head and reeled you in to press a kiss a kiss to the top of your head. âBe safe.â
You know this department store like the back of your hand. The times you spent in here roaming around with your boyfriend could beat the number of hours youâve slept in the past 2 months.
Planning for an event important to so many people in your life has proved a lot harder than you thought. Now youâre in a haste trying to get decorations for the amatuer engagement party youâre throwing.
You found yourself at the aisle with wall decorations. You hum to yourself, pressing a fingertip to your lips as you scanned the filled shelves.
â(y/n)?â
âOikawa?â The name rolled off your tongue even before you could properly process who was calling out to you. You listened to that voice every single day for 3 years â you couldnât forget it even if you tried your hardest. âHi?â
âHi,â he says with a breath, shoving his hands down his back pockets. He raises his shoulders up as he looks at you, quite unsure of what to say. Instead, he just repeats himself by accident, âhi.â
You smile. âHi. I havenât seen you since...â
âHigh school graduation,â Oikawa sighs softly. âSo, how have you been? You disappeared from everybodyâs radar since then.â
âYeah, I took my degree in London,â you stated. âI stayed with my dad. I actually just moved back here a few months ago.â
Youâd piled away every memory you had with Oikawa. As much as you can, you pushed it into the back of your mind where it should belong. When the wound was still fresh, it
Now that heâs standing right in front of you, you could suddenly remember it like it was just yesterday. The laughter, the craziness, the things youâd gotten yourself into. Theyâre the stories youâd never ever forget but youâll never tell anyone about it â itâs a memory for you to keep and hold on to.
Your boyfriend might not have had the best history with Oikawa, but heâs a part of your past whether he liked it or not.
âWe should totally get dinner some time,â Oikawa grins. His eyes widen when you lifted your head in shock. The intention of his invite sinks in almost instantly and he flinches as he covers his mouth. âLike, with Iwa-chan and Makki! Mattsun, too! I bet theyâd be glad to see youâre back.â
Your shocked state prolongs for a while, but eventually, you started laughing. You could see he was cautious with the words he was going to say to you. âIâd actually like that. I was thinking of reaching out these past few days but I didnât exactly know how to start.â
Sure, you were trying to get rid of the awkwardness between you. But it wasnât entirely a lie just to ease off the tension. You genuinely meant it.
âWell, Iâll call you!â Oikawa exclaims, instinctively pulling you in for a tight hug. âOr Iâll text you. Whicheverâs convenient. Iâll see you around, (y/n).â
And just like that, he turns around to continue with his shopping.
You stand where you are, hand still hanging in the air from hugging him back so abruptly. A gush of familiarity washes over you as you stand there, still in a complete state of shock.
Thereâs not a lot of things that can leave you at a loss for words, but Oikawa will always be the one to make the impossible happen.
All the memories came back: that God forsaken first date, his volleyball matches and the heart wrenching break up. There were several things that factored to your break up and you still couldnât entirely understand everything that had gone down.
âHey, babe,â a hand sneaks up on your lower back and a kiss is planted on your forehead, âyouâve got everything?â
You jump and turn to face him, a wide smile replacing the frown on your face. âYeah, just one more thing left.â
Oikawa had walked away a significant distance from you before he remembers that he doesnât have any way to contact you. The groupchat would absolutely not shut up about it.
He whirls around and calls out your name, his shout is silenced by the sight in front of him and it told him that his friendsâ words would probably hurt less.
Because there you are, all coddled up with the one person he couldnât come to terms with. Youâre in Ushijima Wakatoshiâs arms as you scanned the shelves again.
A sigh escapes his lips. Pressing his lips together, he nods slightly and turns back around to continue his day. This was his chance to make things right â to apologise for being so selfish when you were younger.
But maybe thereâs just some things that should be left unsaid. So he just walked away.

akaashi keiji
there were hours that just went on for days
when alone at last weâd
count up all the chances
that were lost to us forever
Long distance is difficult. Having schedules that barely allowed proper conversations made it even worse to attempt to keep a dying relationship afloat.
Itâs even more difficult since there is no relationship to uphold. You broke up a while after you moved for college, but whenever youâre back in town, you just couldnât stay away. Itâs worse because neither can he.
Whenever youâre together after months, it always felt like the hardships never happened at all. Months seemed to pass by like years whenever you were apart.
Youâre lying on your stomach, face smushed into Akaashiâs arm as you lied in bed. Akaashi slips his hand under your shirt and rubs your bare back, eventually pressing his thumb into your shoulder. âI missed you so much â I missed this.â
You hum in response, pressing a chaste kiss to his arm. âI canât believe youâre really here.â
He inches forward and presses a kiss to the side of your head. âBelieve it, babe. Iâm here.â
You reposition yourself to your side and try to make out his face in the dark of your bedroom. You nuzzle your face into his shoulder, a hand going around him and rubbing circles on his back. âYou smell so good.â
âEverything is just not the same without you,â Akaashi mutters into your hair. âI swear, I just want it all to end. I love having you around.â
It was so hard not to miss him. The breakup was innocent and you ended on good terms. The closeness you had with one another is too good to permanently let go of.
âI wish I could stay,â you whisper, repositioning yourself once more. You press your back against his chest and let out a heavy sigh, grazing your fingertips up and down his forearm. âI just want to be with you.â
He buries his face into your hair sprawled out behind you. At some point, his perception of time whenever you came back changed. He never noticed it up until recently when Bokuto pointed it out.
Akaashi wasnât just counting down how many days he had left before he can see you â itâs how long before he can hold you; before he can touch your skin.
When youâre together, itâs how many times does he get to see your face before he has to wait months before grazing upon the emotions that dawn on it. How many more times can he hear your laugh before he has to hear it over the phone every once in a while.
âYou smell so good.â He props himself up on his elbow and moved the hair from your neck. He presses a kiss to the back of your neck, his other hand trailing down to your thighs. âI canât fit 5 months into the 3 days I have with you, (y/n).â
The air in the room quickly gets slightly more intense â he sucks on the skin and his hands still roaming around your bare thighs. âBut Iâll try to make sure that we make up for the time we were apart.â
âKeiji,â you whisper shakily as he moves up your neck, still sucking on your skin sloppily. His hand blindly searches around for yours, squeezing it when a struggled moan pasts your lips. âKeiji, please.â
Itâs a very complicated relationship that you have right now. Youâre not exactly together, but youâre not exactly single either. You could do whatever you want while youâre apart, but you just could not bring yourself to see other people.
It scares you to see other people. Keiji is the greatest person you know and you donât want to find out if thereâs someone who can top the impression you have of him.
You just couldnât let go.
You lie on your back as he moves on top, nudging your nose with his. â(y/n).â
âKeiji,â you sigh out, your fingers tangling themselves into his hair. Your back arches and your eyes widen when his hand moves higher up on your thigh. âI love you.â
He nods, processing your words. He dips back down to lock you in a deep kiss before he says it against your lips, âI love you too.â

Oikawa pushes the door open, immediately greeted by the warmth that the cafe is providing. The cafe is busy - thereâs a queue at the cash register, people scattered all over trying to find seats and chatter coming in from all directions.
It doesnât take him long to find the face heâs searching for. Itâs not that difficult because heâs seen that face every single day since he was a kid. His voice is very distinct as well and he knew where to look the moment he heard his name.
Iwaizumi immediately pulls him in for a hug the moment he arrives at the table. Once heâs seated back in his seat, Oikawa quickly notices you sitting next to his best friend with a small smile. âRemember the girl I was telling you about thatâs in the same dorm building as you?â Iwaizumi starts, âthis is her.â
âHi,â she greets him with a small nod from where she sat. âIâm (y/n). Hajimeâs talked a lot about you. Like a lot.â
Oikawa chuckles hesitantly, but softly. âI sure hope the impression you have of me is a good one.â
They spent the evening laughing and chatting. Itâs crazy that both of you were at so many places at the same time but never came across each other until Iwaizumi had brought it up while he was on the phone one night.
âIâll see you around,â Oikawa smiles, giving you a polite nod before he turns to Iwaizumi to give him another hug. âItâs nice seeing you again. Before you go, how about we grab dinner again?â
âCount on it,â Iwaizumi cheers, âbut youâre paying because I am the one leaving.â
Iwaizumi puts an arm around you as you turn away. You wave at Oikawa one last time and beam at him. âHave a good evening!â
Oikawa freezes, in the middle of the busy sidewalk outside of the cafe heâd just exited merely minutes ago. The dormant butterflies in his stomach came alive again and heâs feeling warmer than he ever has the whole time heâs been inside.
The contrasting cold wind that Tokyo had to offer him didnât even bother him anymore. He already knows - heâs smitten with you.

Iwaizumi has just left the city. Heâd hopped on a train and took off, back to continue his normalcy of going to university just like Oikawa. You were there to send him off as well.
âAre you going home?â Oikawa starts, turning to tilt his head at you. When you nod, he continues walking next you. Which shocks you because heâs supposed to go the other direction. âLet me walk you home. You know Iwa-chan wonât let me hear the end of it.â
âHeâs just protective,â you dismiss his concern with a wave and a soft laugh. âAnd you donât have to. Itâs okay.â
Oikawa could not stop thinking about you during the past couple of days since he first met you. He couldnât forget the way you smiled at him and how you laughed at every single one of his jokes.
âItâs okay, Iâve got somewhere to go to in your area, anyway.â False. He just wants to potentially get to know you better. Hell, thereâs even a chance that Iwaizumi will tell him off but heâs ready to take his chances with it. âSo, howâs college? Any clubs youâve joined?â
âNo, I didnât even try,â you shrug, âIâm working to pay for the apartment Iâve been staying in. Iâm totally not on a scholarship. Unlike you. Howâd you get so good at volleyball, anyway?â
The walk to your apartment building didnât feel as long as it should have. The 20-minute walk she took only felt like 10 minutes. You talked about a lot of things, usually just about school and surface-level things. Nothing too serious and it bums him that you wonât open up to him more.
You abruptly stop and tap Oikawaâs shoulder. You gesture to the tall, pasty white building behind you. âThis is my apartment building,â you beam at him. âThanks for walking me home, Oikawa-kun. Iâll see you at school.â
âActually, if you donât mind, do you wanna grab dinner some time?â

Video calling has been a night time routine for the both of you. For the past 3 days since you had dinner together. It started with a simple question he needed help with for his class and suddenly youâre always calling each other at night.
âHear me out, right?â You start, holding up your hands to the camera to keep him quiet, âwhy is it any different if you see me in my underwear? Itâs exactly the same as seeing me in a bikini.â
âI canât say Iâve never thought of that,â Oikawa admits, tilting his head as he stares off at his wall.
This argument sparked up when you mentioned that you wanted to change your shirt. The drastic difference in temperature from the outside and your apartment is enough to make you change out of your two layers. You simply took off your shirt without moving away from the camera or at least covering or turning it off.
âBut itâs different! Underwear with all that lacy shit it has going on,â Oikawa sighs. Suddenly, the image of you mere seconds ago in your underwear flashes and it makes his cheeks turn red. Redder than youâve ever seen them. âUnderwear is just different.â
He looks back at the screen of his laptop, flinching slightly when your face has covered up the entirety of his device. You scrunch up your nose and narrow your eyes down to a squint. âWhy are you all red?â
âAm I?â He has every reason to be red. Heâs known you almost a week and a half and heâs already seen you in your underwear. Usually it takes him at least a month.
You giggle, pulling away with a playful grin. âIâve got to go make dinner than tuck myself in,â you explain softly. âYour assignmentâs all good, right? Just call me if you have another question.â
Oikawa nods. The words he had to say were all stuck in his throat - bunching up into a lump. All he manages to say to you is:Â âIâll call you.â

âItâs a school night,â you mutter, shoving Oikawa back with an eye roll. âAnd itâs freezing out here - I donât know how you got me out of my apartment.â
âItâs just my charm,â Oikawa laughs, shoving his hands into his pockets. He stopped at the entrance of your apartment building and towers over you.
He couldnât fall asleep at all - his thoughts about his first competition in college consumed him all night. He texted you and you were up. So he picked you up and walked around with you.
You snarl at him and turn to glance at your building for a moment.
The air between the two of you suddenly got thicker. Maybe itâs the calmness of 3AM thatâs making him feel like this. The brief idea that you might be feeling him too is lingering, but he canât bear the rejection if heâs wrong.
âThanks for paying for my hot chocolate,â you say in a sigh, âI forgot to grab my wallet on the way out of the door.â
âItâs no problem. I asked you to come out, anyway,â he says in a low voice, taking a step towards you. Heâs very cautious about this. It can end in two ways and heâs not particularly fond of the ending where Iwaizumi beats his ass. âSo, lunch tomorrow, right?â
You canât utter a response. Youâre looking up at him and just realised how brown his eyes are. Even in the dark of the night, they just shined so bright.Â
Suddenly his body is on auto-pilot. Youâve grabbed his shirt and yanked him down into you, pressing your lips against his. He doesnât even have time to think about it - he just tries to pull you closer into his body.
When you abruptly pull away, he feels his heart drop. You lick your lips and nod, âyeah, lunch at 12:30. See you tomorrow.â

Oikawa lies back in his bed, staring at his ceiling. Heâs conflicted. You havenât brought up the fact that you kissed him a few days ago. If he knew any better, he would have thought that you think it was just a mistake.
He might just be reading too much into the situation. Perhaps you just got too caught up in the moment and thatâs why you did what you did.
You havenât called each other at night since then. Heâs overthinking circumstances. Did he lose you? Is Iwaizumi already in a train on the way to Tokyo to beat him to a pulp?
His phone buzzes, making him scramble up from his position and snatch his phone from the floor next to him. His lips stretch at the notification with your name and quickly opens it.
âi just got home from work,, iâll text you later okayâ
He texts you back with a simple âokayâ and goes back to staring at his ceiling. He doesnât know how long he waited for you, but eventually he fell asleep at some point in the night.
You never texted him later that night.

âIâm tired,â you huff, patting his chest then rolling to lie on your back. You sit up and grab your phone from his bedside table and start to scroll through your phone.
Oikawa nods and sits up as well, checking his phone for a brief moment before returning all his attention on you. âDo you want anything to eat? I have leftovers from what I ordered in for lunch.â
âJust a cup of water for me, please,â you mutter, flashing him a wide smile. You donât even look up from your phone - you just continue to text your friends with a small smile. He canât help but wonder if youâre talking about him. âThank you.â
He nods and picks a stray shirt from his floor. He canât believe youâre on his bed right now, in your underwear. It all happened a week ago when you admitted to him that you like him.Â
Well, not exactly that. Your exact words would be: âI donât know if I like you, but I feel something for you. Youâre a great guy.â
Heâll take it as it is.
The catch is that you donât think youâre ready for anything serious right now. With school and the fact that youâre working almost every day and night, you told him that you just didnât think that committing is something you can do right now. Especially not with the baggage of your messy breakup that just happened not too long ago.
He has to respect that. Heâs got his fair share of trauma for his last relationship in high school as well.
When he comes back to the room, youâre already coddled up in his sheets and unconscious. His lips spread into a grin and he just places the cup of water on the table on your side of his bed.
Oikawa: The stars are beautiful tonight Iwaizumi: Yeah Oikawa: You know what else is beautiful? Iwaizumi:*blushes* What Oikawa: Me duh. I mean have you seen me Iwaizumi: Oikawa: Iwaizumi: You better run Tooru
